Maybe Or Maybe Knot...!

Here's something a little bit different for your enjoyment this morning.

With all our talk of camping and of making do in case of emergency, I thought it might be handy to learn a few knots. Now, some of you already know these knots...and some of you may not know these knots. If you do know these knots, then there is no need to relearn them. However, if you do not know these knots, now would be a good time to get to know them. In fact, there is no reason not to know these knots, you know?

In helping with your efforts to know these knots, I've put a picture of some of the more useful knots that you may want to know!

Whether or not you know these knots, I thought you might like to look them over...but then maybe KNOT, you know?

Now, my friend, why don't we just get some fresh coffee and sit on the patio for a bit! We can talk about whether or not you need to know these knots, ya know?

I think you left out one of the most important knots the people of this country will be using with reckless abandon very soon.

The UniKnot, Slipknot, or Hangman's Knot.

Watch the video, Children.

Hey Catman...
How could I have forgotten that one...?

Sorry about that, buddy! I'll practice for when I need it, and that may KNOT be too far away!

Thanks for the visit...

I am feeling all knotted up just reading about knots and what I didn't know about knots and what I am suppose to know about knots.

Oh Jim - I gotta go have myself some coffee and get all unknotted now. RAE

Ow...I think I sprained a neuron...

This reminds me of my sailing days, although I mostly used square, figure-eight, and clove-hitch knots back then because I was lazy and only ever skippered a one-person Sunfish or a dinghy.

Funny timing - I just started teaching my son (the Evil Genius) how to tie basic knots...I expect I'll wake up tied hand and foot and tossed in the closet one of these days because I wouldn't give him Cap'n Crunch for dinner.

Shade and Sweetwater,
K

OH WOW all these knots first thing in the morning. You know confusing me is a short trip, or driving me crazy is even shorter.
But I can do a few of those.
Now lets sit on the patio and drink a few pots. Oh and dad asked why I don't put a straw in the pot and be done with it. :)

HermitJim,
I used to teach knots and lashings when I was in the Boy Scouts. With some knots and rope skills there isn't much you can't do. From shelters to campsite tools. With a little help one can build rope bridges, wooden towers and gateways. Here's a link with pictures/drawings of everything you can build:

Knots are great fun. Just don't try them with poly rope, you'll pull yer hair out! Poly rope doesn't like to hold knots..... And in my case, if I don't use 'em, I forget 'em.... Practice!

If you are really interested in some knotwork check out Stormdrane's Blog on blogger. His blog is nothing but making lanyards, handles, one time a rope ladder. They guy is really good at knotting.

Thanks for the image btw.

Hey K...
You gotta watch what you teach those little genius's...they could use it against you.

Thanks, my friend , for coming by this morning...

Hey JoJo...
I hadn't thought of that! A straw in the coffee pot...not a bad idea!

Hope your Dad is getting along OK...and that you are holding up OK as well!

We'll sit here together on the patio and you can practice tieing me up! Boy, I get shivers of joy just thinking about that!

Thanks for dropping in for a cup, Dear!

Hey FM...
That's an amazing site! Thanks for the link and the informatioon...didn't even think of rope for a lot of these things!

Thanks for coming by and good to see you again, my friend!

Hey Mayberry...
I reckon I'm with ya on that "use it or lose it" thing. I haven't used many of these knots to any extent, but who knows...they could come in handy!

Thanks for the visit, brother!

Hey Wyn...
Thanks for the information about the knot site! I'll have to see if I can track him down. I'm thinking that some of these things might be good to know in an emergency situation...

Thanks for coming by, buddy! I appreciate it!

Morning HJ,
Well, I'll be double knotted to a hitchin rail! I was just looking at knots in my old Boy Scout handbook last night and thinking about them. Remember "Wyoming Knott" from the "Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" by Heinlein? LOL

Cool! Years ago I bought Ashley's Book of Knots because I wanted to learn some marlinspike seamanship. Fantastic book, and knots have intrigued me ever since. Thanks for posting some useful knots!

Hey YOF...
Someone else said they were also just looking at knots last night! Great minds do, indeed, think alike I guess!

I have a feeling that a lot of things we have learned over the years and stored away, may just come in handy before long...

Hey, I appreciate you coming by and leaving a comment, my friend!

Hey Cygnus...
Gets con fusing, doesn't it? Kind of a fun thing to do, start a discussion like this and see where it goes, ya know?

Thanks for the visit, nephew!

Hey Darius...
Take a look at the site mentioned by Wyn a few comments back! Man, they have everything you can imagine built with rope and knots...pretty amazing!

That's why I love the net, because we can learn so much daily!

I really appreciate you coming by...

The bowline is a tough one to master but has saved my skinny behind many times.

I am still trying to figure out why my Granny used to call me a knothead though.

Good post my man!

Noki said...

Hey JoJo...
I think you're right! My mind probably has wandered too far. This type of discussion could just go on and on...

Ain't it fun?

Hey Bullseye...
Good to see ya, buddy! Hope all is ok around the homestead with the daughter now...

Probably a good thing to have...a referrence of strong knots that can be quickly put up and taken down!

Certainly can't hurt! Thanks for taking the time to visit, my friend!

Hey Busted...
I think that tying knots is a lot like so many things in that it takes practice to really learn, but once learned it's hard to forget!

Can't help ya on that term "Knothead". I have no idea where it came from!

Good to see you here today, my friend! Thanks for coming by!

Hey Ashley...
Good of you to come by. Making a knote of these Knots is probably knot a bad idea!

JoJo said...

Yes it is fun has kept me in knots for hours today.

I was in scouts with a leader who was pretty serious into Mountaineering in his youth so can do about half of those without thinking. Knots are essential for doing all sorts of stuff.

HermitJim said...

Hey TOR...
It's amazing that once something like that is learned, it's really hard to forget!

Thanks for stopping by!
