It Just Makes You Wonder...!
I was looking at the crime rates for the state of Texas, and wondering why they are continuing to climb at such an alarming rate!
I think I have stumbled across one of the reasons...as reported in a story in the Houston Chronicle. See if you think this makes any sense to you!
Houston inmate walks out of federal prison in Beaumont
Beaumont Enterprise
March 24, 2010, 4:27PM
Two inmates have walked away from a minimum security facility of the Federal Prison Camp in Beaumont.
U.S. Marshals were notified at 7 p.m. Monday that Carlos Luis Guerra of Houston and Arturo Carlos Saenz-Olea of Hidalgo were not at the facility, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Jim Fulcher.
Guerra is in prison for possession with attempt to distribute cocaine and his release was scheduled for 2019.
Saenz is in prison for possession with attempt to distribute marijuana and criminal conduct. He was scheduled for release in 2014.
Fulcher said the facility does not have a fence and inmates are kept on a kind of "honor system" where they are counted multiple times per day and are expected to check in for work details.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of either inmate can call the U.S. Marshals at 839-2581.
No fence? Honor system...? Did someone forget to tell the Feds that this was a PRISON? Did the guards forget how to count? What part of criminals did you NOT understand?
I mean, we have public schools here in Houston that seem to have a better security system than this prison...and this is a Federal pen! No fence...? THAT makes no sense to me at all!
No wonder we all feel so safe, here in the great state of Texas! This is what happens when you put the feds in charge of something that affects the average, law abiding citizen. Seems to me that the fedgov's attitude is "so what? They aren't dangerous" ! My question...if they aren't dangerous, why are they in prison?
Depend on the government types to be constantly on ways to help out! Kinda makes you all warm and fuzzy, doesn't it?
Now, my friends, let's get some coffee and adjourn to the kitchen...since it's still raining outside!

Yeah, just about as warm and fuzzy as a law officer makes one feel. Their gun is legal, don't we know?
Well, darn ...the 'honor system' is working so well at our border with Mexico too. (Yeah, right)
Yeah, one of those inmates was from Hidalgo Texas, adjacent to city I'm typing this from. Crazy to hear about how this occured - he was in for a drug charge too!
Hear this morning that Social Security is now paying out more than it is drawing in. Wasn't supposed to be happen until 2016 (or something like that), but state of economy has more retirees / unemployed and the benefits are flying out of the coffers. So expect to hear an increase in our 'contributions' from our paycheck really soon.
What a wonderful world we live in.
Our tax dollars hard at work.
The first clue in your post that something would be screwed up is the word Federal.
"makes you wonder"...and makes you sick!! It's all messed up Jim! Up here in Canada we have a "neat" little thing to help criminals. While they wait for their trials they "earn" double time. Most of their trials take a couple of years to come up so they just knocked off 4 years of their sentence. Up here you can kidnap, rape and murder and be out in less than 2 years...what a fine system we have!!
They're too busy trying to come up with all these new laws...when they can't even enforce the ones we have!
I say put a MOM in charge...then we'll see something done! We wouldn't be seeing ANY second offenses!!
Sorry about the rant Jim! But this stuff just makes my blood boil...
Hey Sissy...
I just wonder what they people in charge were thinking, running a prison based on the honor system! I wouldn't think that these guys even knew what the word meant!
Thanks for coming by today!
Hey WWRWH...
There ya go...a fine example of this type of system at work!
Gotta be a better way than this!
Thanks for coming by today!
Hey Anon 7:19...
Always nice to know that everyone will be giving up more to pay the banks or whatever! My SS benefits were cut last year to pay for medicare...so I have had a taste of what's coming.
I appreciate your visit this morning...!
Hey Momlady...
Sure makes you feel proud, doesn't it? If we ran our own house hold like this...can you imagine the chaos that would follow?
Another fun day in wonderland!
I do thank you for coming by today, my friend!
Hey Treesong...
That was kind of a dead give-away, wasn't it?
Every thing they touch turns to fertilizer, I think!
Hey, thanks for dropping in today!
Hey Cath...
You know, putting a Mom in charge might not be a bad idea at all! Heck, we've tried everything else!
I have a strong feeling that things are going to come to a boil here pretty soon!
Everyday it's something else to marvel at!
Thanks for taking the time to come by today, friend!
I live in Beaumont. This was NOT big news...happens ALL THE TIME here. About 3 weeks ago, 4, that's right, FOUR sex offenders WALKED AWAY from a half-way house. Three were child molesters, one was a rapist. Two left on one day, the other two the next day.
And people wonder why I answer the door with a gun in my hand....
Hey Lamb...
I can only imagine just how uncertain that must be...! When I lived in East Txas, if a prisoner escaped from one of the many prisons there...they knew NOT to bother the folks at home! Several were shot while doing that...!
One thing about those folks living in the country, no question as to whether or not they owned a gun and would use it! That was just a given...!
Sorry to hear it happens on a regular basis ther, my friend!
Thanks for coming by...and be careful!
Speaking of our tax dollars... wonder where those allocated to Federal Prison Fences are working?!!
Hey Cyg...
Probably being used to fund another banker bail-out...or pay for another 500 person presidential trip overseas!
The government never seems o have any trouble finding a way to waste...er, I mean spend our money!
Thanks for coming by today...
What they need is a gun line. Step over the line and it's money saved for the tax payers. The warden and the guard captain should have to finished their sentences or until they're captured. Thanks for another great lesson.
Hey Mechanic...
Not a bad idea, at that! Trouble with that is...most of those jobs are appointed, so we all know that any federal appointed official won't do ANY time as a rule!
Most of the folks being punished now days are the "average working class Joes".
I sure appreciate you coming by today!
We have an honor camp of sorts here. State, not federal, run by the California Conservation Corp, and known locally as the Con Camp. The inmates there are low risk trustees. They are put to work on fire crews, clearing brush from roadsides, shoveling snow in the winter, etc. Seems to work very well. In the almost 34 years I have lived here, I think a total of 2 inmates have walked away, and they later turned themselves in.
Hey Bob...
I think that in a case like that, the honor system might work! However, with the federal prisoners and felons...I don't believe it's agoodidea.
Of course, that's only my opinion...for what it's worth.
Hey, thanks for coming by today.
Remember HJ even thought its Federal its in Texas (one right one Ranger)all we have to do is draw a line.
Hey Ted...
Maybe that's what we need in these places...a little Ranger justice!
Might just help in discouraging this bad behaviour!
Certainly couldn't hurt!
Thanks for the visit today!
