Karma is a b*tch, and can bite you in the butt!
Sooner or later, you are going to get as good as you gave! You have to wonder if this guy thought this was the best way to reap the rewards of his past actions! Another case of the bad guys playing the system for all it's worth!
Fugitive surrenders to get cancer treatment; sheriff doesn't want to pay
By Bruce Vielmetti of the Journal Sentinel
Jan. 28, 2011
A man who eluded Rock County authorities for six years turned himself in earlier this month because he realized he needed treatment for cancer.
But the sheriff didn't want taxpayers footing that bill, and asked a court to order the inmate released, so someone else would pick up the tab.
According to the Janesville Gazette, it's unclear who that will be, but that Anthony S. Darwin, 30, was in surgery in Madison Thursday regardless.
A doctor who initially treated Darwin at Rock County Jail testified at a emergency court hearing that he has testicular cancer and called his prognosis bleak, the Gazette reports.
Darwin, of Beloit, had pending charges of aggravated battery, bail jumping, battery, robbery with use of force, substantial battery and identity theft going back to 2004 when he turned himself in Jan. 10.
I'm torn between two thoughts on this one. I'm feeling bad for the guy's condition, but have to ask myself if he felt bad when he committed the crimes against other people! Probably not!
I can't help but think that is a little bit of payback from a higher authority! My sympathy is gonna be pretty slow in coming, ya know?
Coffee in the kitchen today. It's starting to rain outside!

Sometimes life gets you by the nuts....and its raining here too!
Hey Catman...
It does indeed, my friend, and sometimes it is deserved!
Thanks for the visit today!
Karma truly can be a great thing. Kudos to the sheriff!
I feel torn too. I do feel sorry for him getting cancer but it isn´t like he regretted what he had done that made him turn in himself.
Over here he would get treatment no matter because of our different system.
Have a great day now!
Christer.
Cancer is an ugly thing, not something I would wish on anyone. I understand the sheriff being indignant that the taxpayers would foot the bill for this criminal but doesn't he realize that the taxpayer will STILL foot the bill? You walk into any emergency room in this country and, by law, you are treated ...regardless of ability to pay. So the taxpayers STILL foot the bill. Might as well retain custody and sentence him for his crimes. No, he probably won't live to serve time or pay restitution. But right is right. He is a criminal and should face the music for his crimes. Just my opinion.
Why should the sheriff department budget is probably a little tight. Emergency rooms charge exorbitant prices. I have paid many a thousand dollars out of my pocket for very poor ER services. They are better able to absorb the costs.
Maybe after they make a gelding out of him he won't be so agressive. I just gotta ask though, after the surgery which prison will (s)he go to, men or women?
Hey FarmChick...
What can you do but accept what the fates have in store?
I do appreciate you coming by today!
Hey Christer...
Some of these guys really know how to play the system, and make a career out of using it to their advantage!
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!
Guess every country treats these guys differently!
Thanks for coming by today!
Hey WWRWH...
Right you are about the taxpayer still getting stuck with the bill! We always do!
I really do thank you for coming by today!
Hey Dizzy...
I guess that in the long run, we all still have to pay!
Maybe the sentence should reflect the added cost to fix him!
Nothing medical is cheap anymore, that's for sure!
Thanks, buddy, for coming over today!
Hey Bob...
I'm thinking the most important thing is to get him locked up, ya know? Where doesn't matter so much!
I feel for the guy, but life's a b*tch and then you die! Time to pay the piper, I guess!
Thanks for dropping in today!
Too bad they used anesthetic when they did the procedure. That's all he deserves. Thanks for the info and have a great sunday.
This is extremely off subject, so please forgive me Jim, but I am in a mood.
I wanted to publicly acknowledge how much I look up to you. You my friend have shown much integrity and friendship over the few years that I have known you. Your devotion to your family is inspiring, and I thank you for showing it and sharing it with us. Even if you feel like it is just mundane everyday. So many no longer think to care for their families. To be honest with their devotion.
You are truly an honest individual in your satire, and cynicism (odd I know, but it is there).
Hey Mechanic...
I just have a feeling that he will be feeling the pain in one way or another for a long time!
Hope that he gets better so that he can enjoy his time as a guest of the state!
Thanks for coming by today!
Hey Phelan...
I really appreciate the nice things you had to say this morning!
It always makes me feel special, when folks think kindly of me! I don't think of myself as doing anything special to speak of, just trying to follow what my folks taught me and showed me by their actions!
Of all the treasures in this ol' world today, none is quite as important as family!
Right or wrong, good or bad, they are still family!
I'm blessed to have you as one of my net friends and believe me, that's a blessing I'm certainly proud to have!
Have a great day, and I appreciate you coming over today!
I'm with the sheriff on this one. Sound like the right plan to me. Personally IF I ran the jails, there won't be no color TV, no work out rooms, no work release programs..
Bring back chain gangs..
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
Hi Honey I'm Home,
And I ditto everything Phelan has to say about you. You are very special.
And to further get off the subject the dishes Annie made are mine. I am so thrilled.
Now for the topic.
Cancer is ugly and it seems to late for him to repent and it sounds like he doesn't anyway. It is better for him to just go to some county health service for treatment not add to a tight budget on the sheriff's dept. they may have to cut down on officers and that is a bad thing.
Have a great day.
Hey Ben...
Makes you wonder why more of these types aren't trying to get in, doesn't it?
Most of them live better incarcerated that on the outside! Safer for all of us!
Many thanks, my friend, for stopping by today!
Hey JoJo...
Glad you made it back home, and I hope the little trip was a pleasant one!
You ladies are going to embarrass me, for sure!
I really don't want this guy to suffer, but it's another case where we all should be living each day as though it were our last!
Tomorrow is promised to no one!
Thanks, sweetie, for coming over today!
To clarify on budgets, the only thing the sheriff's budget has to cover in the way of medical care is to staff a part-time or full-time nurse. If an inmate gets sick or injured, the nurse assesses the situation and administers first aid and recommends for or against further medical treatment. The cost of the actual treatment is born by the facility that provides ...who in turn depends on tax dollars and donations for indigent services. Those tax dollars are at a county level so unless the guy leaves the jail and crosses a county line to seek medical treatment, the sheriff hasn't saved himself or his constituent taxpayers a dime by turning the guy loose.
Sorry if I sound cold-hearted, I'm just sick of wrong-doers, especially 'frequent-flyer' types like this guy, getting a get out of jail free card.
Oh Oh...Karma. Like you I am torn. Having had Karma pay me a visit...it sucked, but also taught me a lesson. Hope lesson has been learned here.
Hey WWRWH...
Like I was saying earlier, one way or another the taxpayer is going to get stuck with the bill!
I have to agree with you on the fact that way too many of this type get a free pass for one reason or another!
Time to make them pay somehow!
Again, thanks for your visit!
Hey Diane-Sage...
Positive actions create positive returns. Negative draws negative.
Karma works both ways, and lessons learned through karma are not soon forgotten, I think!
Really do appreciate your visit today!
Hi HermitJim, You make some good comments about karma. I have never subcribed to the "what goes around, comes around theory" and yet have seen proof of this with events in my own life. But it had nothing to do with my wishing bad things to others. It may have been from something you mentioned, about positive actions creating positive results.
The guy in this story did commit atrocities against others and from the story it's not clear who he is sorry for, most likely himself. My take would be that he receive treatment, but as a condition not be released into society and be sentenced to some sort of service to others, perhaps in a hospice setting.
Sorry I have not commented on some of your previous posts. I follow the blog, but often have problems getting the comments area to display. Glad it got through today.
Rain expected here to by mid-week. Coffee indoors is a good idea.
