Let's Give This Man A Gun...!

I have a couple of new heroes today!

I'm proud of this couple, and I don't even know them! Now I'm not saying that what they did was that smart, but I'm proud of the fact that they were willing to stand up for themselves and say "enough is enough!"

If there is one saving grace in the jungle-like world we live in today, it's that so many of our elderly are still brave enough to stand their ground and not roll over just because some punk is trying to scare them!

ST. CHARLES, Minn. (WCCO) — A 91-year-old Minnesota man and his 82-year-old wife say they weren’t scared, but the guy trying to rob them sure was.

A masked intruder wanting money barged into Wally and Betty’s apartment in St. Charles over the weekend. However, he got something in return.

Wally was sitting at his computer when the man entered his home.

“He just stood there in that doorway, standing there with a shovel,” said Wally. “I thought, ‘what the hell is going on here?’ I thought it was a joke!”

After hearing all the commotion, his wife, Betty, went to the front of the house and found him on the floor. Wally had been punched in the nose and it was bleeding.

“I sat on the edge of the bed. He says, ‘give me your hands! I’m going to tie you up!’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t think so,” Betty said.

They both resisted. It happens to be in Wally’s blood. The World War 2 veteran wasn’t about to give in to the guy’s demands — his wife wasn’t either.

After a couple minutes of struggling, the man ran out the door with nothing.

“I’m damn near 92 years old. So, I’ve lived my life. He’s got his ahead of him, and it might not be too rosy, you know?” Wally said.

The couple will celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary in March.

“I’m just thankful that everything turned out OK,” said Betty.

The man is described as a white man in his early 20s, with a black stocking cap and gray ski mask. He’s said to be about 5-foot-10, with a slender build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black nylon jogging pants.

Despite the couples’ bravery, police generally don’t recommend being uncooperative with a criminal’s demands, because it is better to play it safe.

You know, it doesn't matter if it's some punk with a shovel, some crook with a gun or knife, or some jack-booted thug with an automatic weapon...there comes a time that we all need to stand our ground and say "enough is enough!". A time we need to make up our minds that we are NOT going to be pushed around anymore, not going to be victims anymore, not going to just sit back and allow ourselves to be targets anymore!

In my opinion, we need to start taking charge of our own future, our own safety, and our own destiny as soon as possible! I feel that our time may be getting shorter and shorter every day, and those of us that don't take charge of ourselves, will be put in someone Else's charge! I'm just saying...!

Coffee in the kitchen as it's way too cold to go outside. Again, that's just my opinion!

I just read that story online, Jim. God bless those people!

Hey Catman...
That's what I was thinking when I read the story!

I'm starting to think that the older folks in this world today have most of the backbone!

Shame that some of that couldn't have been passed down to some of the younger folks!

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

Morning Jim,
Hadn't heard this but I sure think it's heartwarming, and have to agree with your point about the older folks having more courage than some of the young ones. Those serving in uniform the exception!
Thanks for posting this.

Great post, thanks for putting it out there. I agree that we all need to take charge of our lives. If we don't I feel it will be taken away from us. The older generation had guts. With the exception of our military todays generation are a bunch of "wusses".

It is called natural selection aka survival of the fittest.
Dumbasses who are not armed in their home and yard are the natural prey
of thugs.
Predators have to eat, too.

Shame Wally didn't have his service gun with him. Would have put an end to that jerk!!!

Not sure what it is, but I do know that the older I get the more stubborn I become. It isn't bravery, just looks like it.

Bless their hearts. These suckers need to be caught and handled nice and ruff. Its a shame how they have to pick on the weak and old. But this couple wasn't all that weak. :)They shouldn't have to put up with this and I hope they catch that idiot.
Still having freezing conditions and while a couple of guys here in the village got me water I need all new pipes, Thanks to Global Warming 18 right now

Hey Kathie...
Without a doubt, the folks in uniform have a lot more backbone than anyone I know! God bless 'em all!

I'm mainly referring to the fools running around loose out there!

I'm glad you could come by today!

Hey Linda...
That is my feeling as well! Standing up for ourselves may be the best way to survive what's coming!

Many thanks for dropping by today!

Hey Vlad...
Way too often the predators choose older folks because they think of them as being easy prey!

Turns out more often as of late, that is not always the case!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Ben...
I'll bet the bad guy is thinking the same thing today! Maybe he'll think twice next time!

Too many of this type running around, that's for sure!

Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!

Hey Dizzy...
I seem to have the same problem! Maybe it just comes with the territory. Then again, we may have just reached the point where we have had enough of being forced into following someone Else's rules!

Either way, I'm glad they are both OK and that they didn't get robbed!

Thanks, Dizzy, for coming by today!

Hey JoJo...
I'm glad you were able to get some water into your place! Must have fluttered your eyes at the young men, huh?

Right now, it's 24 on my patio and not climbing very fast!

Supposed to snow this afternoon, but we'll see!

Is it Spring yet? Hey, thanks for coming by today, sweetie!

"Better to play it safe". HA! "Playing it safe" to me is my 12 gauge Mossberg and some 3 inch 00 magnums. Blast the punk. That's "playing it safe"...

Hey Mayberry...
I'm with you, buddy! A little home defense would guarantee this punk would NOT do this again, plus the word would get out that these folks should be left alone!

Some might think that we are blood-thirsty to think this way, but so be it!

Thanks for coming by today!

I have an adorable 22 pistol nearby. There's no crime in this town, but I would not be giving up if someone did break into my house. As you said, enough is enough, and I'm here to defend my own territory!

Hey Marjie...
Like you, I believe that the old saying "better safe than sorry" is a good one to follow!

Better to have a gun handy, and never have to use it...than to need one and not have it!

Like insurance, ya know?

Thanks for coming by today!

Lots of mixed emotion here. Would I want my 87 old Mom trying to pull a gun on an intruder. If she blows him to He**, great, but if he gets it from her and uses it on her???????

HermitJim said...

Hey Bob...
As with any person using a gun, training is of the utmost import! If she is comfortable with the weapon, she would be just fine!

These bad guys will always be afraid of someone standing up for themselves, I think!

Many thanks for coming by today!
