Boy, Were We Dumb...!
When you look back at some of the products we used to use in the past, it's a wonder we ever made it this far!
Take a look at this advertizement for some wallpaper that seems like a nightmare now days. It's hard to believe that not only was this stuff legal, but that it was allowed to be advertized in the main stream media!
Click on this picture and make it bigger, just so you can read the crap that was allowed!
Some of the old ads I looked through will scare the hell out of you, believe me! At least the lies they use today are a little less transparent than they were back then!
How about some fresh coffee on the patio? Still dry, but you already knew that...right?

Many years ago Jim, I can recall when DDT was the ultimate insect spray. Remember the spray things with the pint or so refillable tank and hand pump? We sprayed it on ourselves for the pesky mosquitoes. We breathed the fumes when it was sprayed throughout the house for the pesky flies and other flying night time insects. Yep, it's a wonder we are still alive today.
Then again, maybe it wasn't as dangerous as it was made out - unless you were a bird.
It was nasty enough stuff. I remember when our eagles died off around here back when I was a kid.
The disturbing thing is, in 50 years our descendants will look at our current ads and wonder the same thing.
Shoot, that's no biggie. Coke used to have cocaine in it. And, heaven forbid, we used gasoline with lead in it. And wall paint had lead in it. House insulation had fiberglass, And we all survived.
All boys got real BB guns and I honestly don't know a dammed one that ever lost an eye. Didn't know what a seat belt was till I was grown and don't know anyone who flew through the windshield. An airbag was a big ole fat guy who talked all the time..
How did we make it to adult age? :-)
What you don't have DDT wallpaper? Ha ha,sure was a different time wasn't it?

Yeah, we sure have come a long way toward enlightenment but still a long way to go. When will we learn about the great harm from that Round Up and such stuff. Anyone know where our bees have gone? Diatomaceous Earth eliminates any and all nuisance pests and is non-toxic. Just don't breathe the dry dust! I daily eat it too and feed it to the animals. Eliminates all those internal parasites we all have. I recently posted about this problem.
WE used to run behind the machhine on the back of a truck that sprayed for mosquitos. Yes it is a wonder that we are still alive
I will grab a cup with you before I go exploring this morning.
I think the inventor of DDT actually got the Nobel prize for that!!!
I have an old (empty) metal bottle that once contained DDT and even though it says it´s more or less harmless (they have even made it even more effective by mixing in other stuff in it as well!)on it, it also says not to let children play with it :-) :-)
Have a great day!
Christer.
Hey Billy Bob...
Yep, I can remember those crazy looking pumps! Used them for everything!
I'm thinking that either we were more durable than folks thought, or those products were not as dangerous to our use as we were told!
Wonder what we will think in the next 10 years?
Thanks for coming by today!
Hey Gorges...
Guess we will never know the truth about some of the things in our past ...or even in the present!
Then again, could be we are better off not knowing!
Hey, thanks for coming over today!
Hey Sixbears...
You're probably right about what the future generation will think about us. If they can still read by then!
I guess that somethings we have to learn the hard way, like killing off some species of birds and animals!
Have a great day, and thanks for coming over this morning!
Hey Ben...
It's pretty amazing when you go back and read some of the older commercials and ads. Some of the claims are so far-fetched, yet must have been effective at the time!
I guess those products are one reason we grew up so tough and cranky! Heck, we have to blame it on someone or something...right?
Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!
Hey China...
You know, I never even heard of this stuff until I read this ad! Didn't know we even used to have such a thing!
Learn something new each and every day!
Thanks for coming over this morning, buddy!
Hey Sissy...
Each day should be a learning experience for us all!
I think that part of the problem is that folks just don't want to hear about the bad stuff! Some would rather live in ignorance, I suppose!
You have a good day and thank you for your visit!
Hey JoJo...
Does make you wonder sometimes, doesn't it?
I hope you find some interesting stuff to take pictures of while you are exploring! Have fun...!
Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!
Hey Christer...
I'm sure that the inventor didn't know about the long term problems from DDT, or maybe he did!
It was a good product, but just deadly! That's often the case with so many things that we come up with!
I'm thinking most products have some type of disclaimer on the can or container!
There is even a number on the tube of toothpaste for the poison control center! Really!
Guess you could poison yourself with just about anything!
Thanks, my friend, for coming over today!
We had a DDT plant a block from where we grew up, also had a talc plant here too. And,,some kind of chemical plant. Maybe that's my COPD problem, not tobacco. lolololol
...planned hysteria,all of it...i'm with Ben,sensationalize everything,then nuthin' is sensational(or sum'thin' like that)
...how many kids drowned in five gallon bucket, before the gov't warning?...one!
...how many after?...hundreds!
...how many overdosed on medicine before safety caps?...a few!
...how many after?...tens of thousands!
...i know the above is chintzy analogies, but you get the picture...
Human complacency is to blame.
We used mercury in our bath water and played with it from broken thermometers. I still have mercury fillings in my mouth.
