Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
Plato
They say that music soothes the soul and for us music lovers, it seems that listening to music can also be good for our health. Music has been found to have stress-relieving benefits on the heart. Researchers have recently found that slow or meditative music has a calming, relaxing effect which in turn helps people slow their breathing and heart rate. Blood pressure normally rises during a surgical procedure, but listening to music helps minimise the rise in blood pressure.
Other research has found that music has stress relieving benefits, can enhance athletic performance and improve movement in neurologically impaired patients.
Its becoming quite popular for music to be played on sound systems in operating rooms during surgery. Some doctors believe that it relieves tension; and studies have shown that this practice can also benefit the patients.
Anaesthesiologist, Dr. Frank Gentile, believes that music helps make surgeons work more efficiently. If they're working faster and they're happy, the flow of the operating room is happier.
If I ever had to have surgery, my doctors are more than welcome to listen to music. Id rather have relaxed and happy doctors working on me. Wouldnt you?
Music helps patients relax too. Research has even shown that patients who listened to music before and during ambulatory surgery displayed lower stress levels. Ambulatory surgery is when you are admitted and discharged from the hospital on the same day.
The researchers found that the best results are likely to come from people being able to listen to the music of their choice rather than music thought to be soothing. So, it appears that listening to music not only relaxes the doctors, but also the patients.
Now you know that the Hermit wants you to be healthy, right? Don't I always give you healthy coffee, healthy programs, even health tips on thinking good thoughts? Well...in keeping with that way of thinking I am giving you a little healthy music. Hope you enjoy this piece by Glenn Miller.
Now let's get some fresh coffee, OK?
"In The Mood" eh Jim?
ReplyDeleteI've always liked that song too!
Thanks for the information and the pleasant song for a beautiful Sunday morning :))
Chat with ya soon,
blondie
Hey Blondie...you know me! Always "In the Mood!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by this morning and we will see ya on the flip side!
Jim
Just saw this one (Monday am) and what a great way to start a Monday! Had to cruise on over to a couple of the other Glen Miller sites as well. Guess we have Mom and Dad to thank for introducing us to Big Band, and I still love it, as I know you do! We have been to the Glen Miller band shows the last 2 times they have been to Houston - not the originals, of course, but some direct descendants (I think) and the original scores and arrangements. You'd really enjoy it (except for the other several thousand people there)! I'll think of you next time we go!
ReplyDeleteHey Sis...thanks for stopping by. Yeah, we were fortunate in the fact that Mom and Dad both liked Big Bands and introduced us to them. Many happy memories associated with that sound, at least for me!
ReplyDeleteSee ya later
I didn't grow up with it, nor have I been exposed to that much of it...but I LIKE it...Big band music. The choreography of the piece is as good as the music itself....
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,
Smiley Cat
Hey Cat...thanks for stopping by. Yeah, this kind of music does grow on you. My family has always liked all kinds of music and my Mom and Dad liked big band sounds quite a lot. We still have a lot of records and cd's and tapes.
ReplyDeleteGlenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, all the rest were a great group of artist.
See ya Cat!
