It Ain't Pretty, But It Works...!

You know, sometimes you look at a picture and think "man, that's just plain silly"!

But then, when you think about it for a minute...you realize that maybe it's not that silly after all! What starts off as a joke, suddenly turns into a completely workable idea!

What brings this whole train of thought to the fore front is a picture I got in an email. It was a collection of funny pictures and, while it did make me laugh at first...I couldn't get the idea out of my mind!

First, take a look at this picture!

Now this is a picture of a standard leaf rake being used to roast hot dogs! It was meant to reflect some red-neck cookouts...but I don't see why it wouldn't work! If you used a brand new rake, made sure all the paint on the tines was burned off, nd maybe washed it really good first...it should be good to go!

I mean, I've used a sharp stick, a straightened out wire hanger, and I'm sure several other things I've can't remember to roast hot dogs...so I wouldn't have a problem using a rake!

Just think, you could feed a lot of kids with just one rake full of hot dogs! Now, all we need to do is to find out how to heat the buns at the same time! Any ideas?

Kinda makes you wonder what other types of tools could be used to do double duty around the house...

Now, let's get some fresh coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit. Want a hot dog?

  1. Sounds like a good idea to me. Now about the buns.

Hmm...what if the hot dog was put in the bun first, then skewered onto the rake tines the bun could sit on top like a jacket? Then when done just slide it off and hand it over. It could work, at least I can visualize it. LOL!

  2. Hey felinae...
Don't know why it wouldn't work! Sor of opens up a lot of possibilities, doesn't it?

I guess we could experiment a lot until we got it right, huh?

    Hey, thanks for coming by!

  3. It´s actully a great idea! But as You say, it must be a new rake. I would only think of all disgusting things I raked with my old one :-) :-)
    Have a great day now!

  4. Hey Christer...
Yep, I think a new rake is definitely in order! Many of us have raked up things that we certainly wouldn't want in our mouths...

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

  5. I just bought a new rake from Big Lots and it has stainless steel looking tines (I don't think they are SS though) and I haven't used it for anything yet. That is a great idea.

Never know until you try, right?

Sometimes the craziest things work out to be a good thing!

    Thanks for coming by!

  8. I don't think I'd want to have to feed that many people. And if I did they could roast their own dogs.

  10. I think I got that same e-mail, Mister Hermit, sir - Someone and I were laughing over the...erm...innovations therein!

One would warm the buns by resting them on the top surface of the rake, of course - but like Mum, I think I'd make people roast their own dang weenies.

Hey...I wonder if the rake would work for marshmallows? Imagine the s'more you could make...

  11. Brilliant idea! It's cheap, it's fast, and it's effective. This genius should run for President!

  12. Hey Dan...
I'll just bet it does, after looking at all that snow all the time!

Here in Texas, especially in the South, we are able to cook out most all year 'round! In fact, most stores sell grills and charcoal all year!

Suddenly I have a real hankering for a grilled burger!

Thanks for the visit, my friend!

    Hey Momlady...
I guess that half the fun is to burn your own...I mean, roast your own! Just seemed like a good way to get the kids fed in a hurry!

Certainly something to consider for the next bonfire, don't ya think?

Hey, thanks for the visit today!

    Hey JoJo...
Guess I need to get me a new rake so I can practice, huh?

Actually, I can't see myself having that many folks over at one time!

Coffee and a hug coming up!

    Hey K...
I'll bet that someone would be willing to try this...knowing him as I do!

Why don't you two try the marshmallows and let me know how it comes out?

Imagine how this would go over at a fair...!

I sure do appreciate the visit today!

    Hey Anon 8:18...
Making the best of what's available! That's what being a Prepper is all about, isn't it?

I don't think those guys up in D.C. ever eat hot dogs...they certainly wouldn't lower themselves to doing their own cooking!

Sure do appreciate the visit today!

  14. I only counted 13 or 14 dogs. What's the second guy gonna eat? Guess he'll have to wait for the refill or get his own rake. lol

    See Ya

  15. Hey Ginger...
It does look a little silly, doesn't it? But I figure that if it works...why not?

I'm so glad to be able to hear from you again! Glad you came by!

    Have a great New Year!

    Hey Tony...
You and my Mom must like hot dogs about the same!

Guess we will have to coin a new expression about being hungry! Something like "looks like a two rake fire!"

Hey, thanks for dropping in, buddy!

  16. Can't imagine all you Preppers being too concerned about the rake being new or not. I'm not saying y'all aren't clean I only remember all the times I've heard that the fire would kill the germs...just heat the rake first. 'course, a little washing never hurt.
I will take 2, please. (Guess I didn't need to give those forks, huh!)

  18. Hey Beth...
It doesn't have to be new, but if you only had one...the kids couldn't rake the yard while the hot dogs were being roasted!

I used to have some forks made for doing hot dogs, but can't find them anywhere!

    Thanks for the visit, sis!

    Hey Blondie...
That's my purpose in life...making folks smile a bit!

Besides, it takes less muscle to smile than it does to frown! Glad you got a kick out of it!

Thanks for coming by, my Colorado Cupcake!
