This Really Ticks Me Off...!

I'm sorry, but when I hear a story like this I can't help but get upset...REALLY upset!

I know that there will be some folks that will say " well, they are trying! We should give them a chance!" To those folks I would just say...what part of "illegal" or "unregistered" or "non-permanent residents" or "non-US citizens" do you NOT understand!

Read the story and make up your own mind. It's reported in the Houston Chronicle right here!

Thousands of non-citizens getting in-state Texas tuition

DALLAS — More than 12,000 illegal immigrants, non-permanent residents or non-U.S. citizens paid in-state tuition or received other such financial aid at public colleges and universities across Texas during late 2009, the Dallas Morning News reported today.

The figures from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board show about 1 percent of all Texas college students, in the fall semester, benefited from a 2001 law granting such in-state tuition.

The law says students who are not U.S. citizens and want to seek the assistance must have attended school in the state for at least three years before they graduate from a Texas high school. Students also must file an affidavit saying they plan to seek permanent residency.

During the fall semester, 12,138 students benefited from the law. Texas awarded about $33.6 million in state and institutional financial aid to those students between fall 2004 and summer 2008, according to the newspaper.

Gov. Rick Perry, who earlier this month won the GOP primary, supports the law aiding illegal immigrant students. Perry, in a recent debate, said the students are on the path to citizenship.

The Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas filed a challenge to the law in December.

“It's not like we're swimming in budget surpluses,” said coalition attorney David Rogers, who maintains that taxpayers suffer because of the law. “It's the responsibility of the government of Mexico to educate Mexican citizens.”

University of Houston law professor Michael A. Olivas said federal law allows states to draft their own policies. “It is a matter for states to determine,” said Olivas. “In-state status is a state issue.”

Former legislator Rick Noriega, who sponsored the in-state tuition law, said that educating the students is an economic development issue.

“This is about access to higher education,” said Noriega, now the president of Avance, a nonprofit organization that educates Hispanic parents on preparing children for school.

“The alternative is to slam the door on any hopes and dreams. How are they going to perform in high school if they don't even have a chance at higher education?” he said.

I'm sure that my favorite Troll will show up, calling me a "racist" or "unfair bigot"...but as before my answer is "I say what I think and what I want! I can do that because it's my right as a citizen of the United States and a firm believer in the Constitution!"

Now, my friends, let's get some coffee and sit outside for a bit...while I calm down some!

  1. If you believed in the Constitution, you would know that A) Article I, Section 8 does not provide for Federally-stolen funding for any student, US citizen or not, and B) unless there was a specific prohibition, the Constitution did not apply to the States, anyway. (Amendment X)

Nobody has a right to take my money to poorly educate their kids. Unless, perhaps, you believe "It takes a village." Even then, you're still wrong.

Education is not a God-given right. It is an obligation of parents to provide for the education of their children, whether it is through homeschooling or paying for their educations themselves. If they want to reduce costs, they are more than welcome to pool their resources with like-minded people. I am not one of them. I do not believe I have the right to come to your house and take your money or property at gunpoint "for a good cause." What makes you think you have that right, sir? Either by yourself, or by choosing a representative? If you, personally, do not have the right to take money from your neighbor, how dare you presume that you have the right to bestow that right on someone else, sir? If you can't do it morally, then it logically follows you have absolutely no right to choose someone to do it on your behalf. Period.

  2. Hey Brass...
I think you misunderstood what I am saying here. I believe in the same thing that you are saying. If I gave the impression that I was in favor of money being used in this fashion, then the fault is mine for not stating my feelings clear enough!

I do not...repeat, do not think that "feeding the beast" to fund this type of program is right at all! I guess you just don't see how much I am against the taking of anyone's money, mine or my neighbors, just to give it away to others to use...then trying to force home schoolers to abide by some silly made up rules so that they are forced to use public education, thus continuing the ability of the PTB to try and control what our children do and think!

Again, Sir, I can only say that you are preaching to the choir here, as what you are saying is precisely what I was thinking! Sorry that I did not make thyat clear!

Thanks for coming by and for your comments!

  3. Too bad Texas doesn't want to spend any money giving American children a full-ride scholarship.

Seems educating the children of your own country and state should take precedence over those outside of it.

Maybe more American students would go to college if they could get scholarships based on merit, rather than race and being born in another country.

  4. Hey Anon 2;41...
I'm not sure what the governor or the others in the places of power were thinking here. Certainly is a mystery to me!

But then, I never was the brightest bulb in the pack!

    Thanks for coming by today!

    Bubba -
I do love Texas, but this is just wrong! I'll be writing my state reps about this one, for sure. Illegal aliens should NOT benefit in any way by being here. If I move to Mexico, the government there sure would not give me anything - and you know I have experience of what I speak. I'm with you - what part of ILLEGAL do folks not understand??
    Big hugs -

  7. Hermy, it is the California mentality. It is all over and people who are dumber then dirt are trying to have anything pushed through, and don't think about the possible outcome of the "afterwards"... like these people not paying it back.

Such as... if I go to California and want to get an education, I do not have to pay more then 4000 a year. A whole year! Because I am from "Out of State". In state tuition for people who in California is out of this world sky high.

Keep an eye out and watch my friend... only those people in their own State can tell the legilature where to shove it and hopefully not break their people.

  8. Hermit, if that's what you believe, then my mistake, sir.

It just seems that a lot of people think that being born, naked and screaming, like everyone in the world is, in a particular geographical area, makes one worthier to receive other people's money, or special benefits made possible by other people paying more.

No one deserves a break through other people's money: white, black, hispanic, or asian, State citizen or not State citizen. I don't care any more or less if an inner-city person on welfare or using subsidized housing is a "citizen" or not. The bottom line is that such a person is sucking tax milk from the State's teat, from the sow that is fed by taxes taken at gunpoint, and nobody has any right to do so, whether he was born here or not.

State-funded education is the problem here. As long as people are unjustly forced to educate other people's kids at gunpoint, "citizen" or not, there will be no peace. You leave a water trough in the desert filled with water stolen from working people, and people will come and drink from it. Nothing you do will stop them except refusing to fill the trough. If you have an empty trough, nobody will come to drink from it.

The idea of the trough filled with other people's hard work is the problem: I can't blame anyone for coming to drink from the trough once it's been filled. I blame those who continue to fill it: every single voter, and every single politician they vote for.

If a bully were on a playground, threatening all the kids and taking lunch money from the kids who had worked for it, and he then gave some of the money to people he wanted to, would you really be concerned trying to punch and stopping all the kids who came from other playgrounds to get the candy he was giving out? It would be ludicrous! You stop the bully! The rest will follow!

  9. And this is why government theft of our money is totally immoral. It pays for things that most people would otherwise never pay for! It's politicians buying Hispanic votes with OUR money....

I agree with you. Illegal is illegal, period. Get legal get benefits. If not get out. I also agree with Mayberry, they're buying votes with our money. Monetary rape of the citizens. Judgement day is coming for these politicians.

Oh,well...what can we do other than wait until election day! Then we speak in force!

    Thanks for the visit!

    Hey Sis...
Isn't it strange that after reading this, I was actually accuse of being in favor of it? Doesn't read that way to me!

And the idea of me...NOT believing in the Constitution? Ludicrous, to my way of thinking!

I don't know...maybe I am just tilting at windmills here!

Thanks for coming by today, Sis!

    Hey Upinak...
You are 100% right, my friend! Things are soooo cray now days!

  18. Jim, a clarification, I wasn't accusing you of being in favor of financial aid for "non-citizens." I was accusing you of selective outrage: for not being outraged that anyone is getting financial assistance, whether directly or indirectly.

I also said that the Constitution has absolutely nothing to do with this issue, so I don't know why you brought it up. Funding for education is completely up to the State you live under. But it should be up to the individual.

  19. Hey Rae...
Each state should tell the government to mind it's own business!

    But that's just my opinion!

Hey, I sure do thank you for coming by today, Rae!

    Hey Brass...
The only reason I brought up the Constitution was in regards to my right to say what I wanted... Had nothing to do with taxes being used for education.

I am all in favor of the fedgov staying out of the affairs of the states! I agree that it should be the responsibility of the states to handle matters of education, but
agree with your thoughts that it should be an individual choice to voluntarily support the programs or not!

I feel just like the article says "University of Houston law professor Michael A. Olivas said federal law allows states to draft their own policies. “It is a matter for states to determine,” said Olivas. “In-state status is a state issue.”

    That about says it all!

Thanks for the visit again...and I hope we can stay on the same page. Sorry if we got off on the wrong foot! I think we are both in favor of the same thing!

  20. Boy howdy Jim....when ya step out on either your right foot or your left, ya gonna be step'n on someone else's feet. Your subject this morning is like put'n a burr under a saddle....it gonna cause an uproar.
But fortunately that didn't happen here.
It's a shame we have to be so PC (politically correct) in choos'n our words as not to "saddle burr" someone that disagrees with our thoughts. You do a wonderful job of being PC.
I'll not comment on todays subject as it's a beautiful day here in Deming and don't want to screw it up.
Coffee good and strong....want a cup???

  21. Jim,

We're probably pretty close. Perhaps on the same page, but different paragraphs. Different strokes, and all.

I didn't say that it should be the responsibility of the States. I only said that it is up to the State you live under. I chose my words carefully.

I've been buzzing by your blog pretty regularly for many moons. I don't say much. No inclination to,usually: you seem to have your stuff together pretty well.
