I actually learned of the theremin on a children's t.v. channel. The instrument fascinates me. I wonder how diffucult it is to learn to play. How does one learn the fingering with nothing to look at? I'm thinking (always dangerous) that there is so much more to this instrument than I see. I especially liked the second instrumental. Love you and see you soon.song
I just saw a bit about those on the Tube somewhere the other night. Wasn't there a band in the 70's that used one ? BTW, if you want to get your own, here's a link for you.
Good Morning My Special Freind, That was great and I always liked that song. I never new about this instrument. Thanks coffee on the patio and smelling roses sounds wonderful
Morning Jim, Loved the music, especially Clair De Lune, had never heard of this instrument before. It has a haunting sound that's true. Thanks for sharing this with us, I always learn something new with the Hermit! Would love to have coffee on the patio and smell the roses but if it's as hot in Houston as it is in Ohio right now, think I'll stay in and salute you with my cup! Clink!

Hey Sis...
ReplyDeleteThe first time I ever saw one was in the Jerry Lewis movie "The Delicate Delinquent"!
I really like this sound from the theremin!
Looking forward to your visit! Thanks for coming by!
Hey Ben...
In the song "Good Vibrations" the intro was played with a theremin as one of the instruments!
Nice sound, ya know?
Thanks for the link, and thanks for coming by today!

Hey Kathie...
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it! Like I said, the instrument has been around for a long time...but many are not familiar with it at all!
Has one of those sounds that sort of goes right through you and carries you away, don't you think?
I appreciate you coming by today!
You learn something new everyday. You can teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks for another great lesson.
ReplyDeleteI am with Mechanic from Illinois...you have taught me something new and I loved it. Thank you Mr. Jim.
ReplyDeleteHey Mechanic...
ReplyDeleteInteresting how many things like this are around that we know nothing about, isn't it?
The world is full of wonder, that's for sure!
Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!
Hey Diane-Sae...
I'm so glad that you liked it, my friend! If it was entertaining, then I did my job and am happy!
Thank you so much for coming by today!
Jim,
ReplyDeleteYou can actually build one of these devices fairly easily, even with a minimum of electronic skills.
I liked that a version called an "electro-theremin", also called a "tannerin", was used in the Beach Boy's hit, "Good Vibrations"

You can see Paul Tanner playing it in the above video.
Hey Catman...
ReplyDeleteI mentioned to Ben in an earlier comment about the theremin being used in this song!
Pretty effective, I think!
Appreciate you coming by today!
Cool!! kinda mesmerizing too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the joy I just experienced, I knew about this device and have found it fascinating. Your selections were wonderful :)
