I Think That This Is Me...!
Somewhere, lost in this wonderful, artistic work of words, is an apt description of me!
In fact, it probably describes a lot of us better than we might want to admit! No one could put it into words any better than old George himself!
Once in a great while, their comes along someone that can be called a genuine "Wordsmith" and this gentleman was certainly one of them...probably one of the best!
He had a way of putting things into words that we could understand, and of taking serious issues into the light of true discussion, while seeing the humor in those same issues! It's a shame there will not be another George for a very long time...if ever!
You can't help but admire this man, if only for his memory! I can only see him as a modern version of Mark Twain! To make others laugh at themselves, talk about real problems while seeing how foolish it is to get angry at the discussion, and to show what an enormous effect just one man can have on the world as a whole!
One person can make a difference, by the very starting of a dialogue! We just need to try it more often!
Now, my friends, let's get some fresh coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit! Maybe we could share a grin or two, ya think?
Gotta love George, rest his soul (though he didn't believe in it!). Good choice Jim, he was definitely one of a kind, the likes of which is ne'er to be seen again...
ReplyDeleteHey Mayberry...
ReplyDeleteWhat you say is so true, my friend! Definitely one of a kind!
Glad we got a chance to share him for a while!
Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!
I discovered George Carlin back in the 70's and was big fan back then. Then he seemed to go through a stage of lewd, crude and linguistically offensive in the late 90's or so. He lost me for a while when he was in that stage. But I enjoyed this clip immensely. This was the George Carlin I remember from way back when. As you said, he was truly a wordsmith. He had a talent for looking at our everyday lives and making us laugh at ourselves and our so-called problems. Thanks for sharing, Jim.
ReplyDeleteGeorge truly as My Generations Mark Twain! Bought his first album and think I wore it out listening to it.
ReplyDelete(remember the Hippy Dippy Weatherman? )
Yep, all us "of a certain age" hung on his every word,
Good Morning My Special Friend.
ReplyDeleteGeorge would have made a great auctioner. Thanks I enjoyed that.
Off pm a dau road trip today.
Have a great day.
Morning HJ, I have seen this Carlin piece a few times and it's always wonderful. That was a good comparison between Carlin and Mark Twain, another great satirist and one that many folks don't know about other than Tom Sawyer and Huckeberry Finn. If you ever want to really chuckle, read Twain's story called Discourses from the Earth (?) I might be wrong on the title...it's really good! Twain and Carlin seem to have shared similar thoughts about a supreme being.
ReplyDelete...could watch him over and over, truly miss this guy,the world is a lesser place without him...
ReplyDeleteHey WWRWH...
ReplyDeleteA little bit of George can go a long way, if you know what I mean? Somehow, it just doesn't sound as crude coming from him as from others!
I think he got even better as he aged!
Thanks for the visit today!
Hey Ben...
I know what you mean about wearing out his first album...think I did as well!
We did have some good ones, didn't we?
Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!
Hey JoJo...
He could talk faster and remember more than anyone I knew!
Enjoy the day trip, sweetie! Thanks for coming by this morning!
Hey Beatrice...
I think I've read just about everything from Mark Twain that was published! I enjoy his stories quite a bit and find them to be a good assesment of his time!
Thanks so much for coming by today!
Hey Ken...
Boy, how true that is! No one to step up to the plate qand take over for him, that's for sure!
I appreciate you coming by today, buddy!
George could take an ordinary boring thing or action and turn it into the funniest thing you ever heard. You know, something like car keys, for example.
ReplyDeleteHey Dizzy...
ReplyDeleteThat he could, my friend, and often did! Guess that's why his stuff lives on and on...!
Thanks so much for coming by today!
One of a kind for sure; I always liked George. I wonder how long he had to rehearse that to run through it without ever missing a word. I can't get through a sentence without tripping over my tongue.
ReplyDeleteHey Bob...
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, my friend! His memory stayed pretty sharp all the way to his death, I think!
What a guy!
Thanks for coming by today!
He'll forever be one of my favorites!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post!
Don't have much to say about GC, though PB likes him, the nastier the language, the better for him.
ReplyDeleteI'm just writing to say "hi". :)
