Guess He's Gone For Good...!

About a month ago or so, one of my "roomies" didn't come home!

I wasn't worried much, as he had done this before...staying away from home for about a week! That's just one of those things you deal with when you have male cats and they still have an interest in the ladies!

I know, I know! I should have had them fixed, but I didn't! Just couldn't bring myself to do it!

I got my friends when they were very small. I started to take just one of them, but couldn't see separating these two brothers from one another at such an early age! So, the three of us became close friends.

They would get up on my desk while I worked on the computer and hang around, usually just napping in the background! Here in this picture, you can see one of their favorite places!

Some times, when Smokey thought it was time to eat (which was pretty regularly!) he would come around from the back of the monitor and sit in front of me, giving me dirty looks until I caved in and fed him and his brother! That evil eye could make you fearful if you could get passed the humor in it!

I guess I put off writing about his being gone, thinking that he would just pop his head in the door one day acting like nothing was wrong! Doesn't look like that is going to happen! C.B., who is Smokey's brother, meows every day while looking in all the places where the two of them used to hang. Sometimes, he looks at me like he is asking me to find him! Sorta breaks your heart, ya know?

Guess I need to get C.B. a new brother to keep him company...maybe I could score one for a Christmas present! And YES, I give my cat(s) small tokens of friendship for the holidays! After all, my kids are all gone and it is only me and the "roomie(s)"!Haven't taken to putting up a stocking for them, but they/he doesn't mind that!

Anyway, this will be sort of a farewell post for Smokey! This picture is how I will always remember him! Beautiful cat, funny to watch, great to love on and get hugged by, and just an all around good room mate!

Raising my coffee cup to ya, my furry friend, no matter where you may be! I hope that you are happy and well!

Now, on a happier note...let's get some fresh coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit! Maybe that will bring back the smile!

  1. Beautiful roomies! Siamese?
I say give it a bit longer but do start looking for a potential new roomie. The other guy sounds so lonely pining for Smokey. <3

  2. Dang!! I didn't want to read about that about your fur baby. isn't it amazing how they can work their way into your heart . I do know how you feel, cause I've cats here forever.

I've got a pet cemetery out back under a tree as it is, complete with headstones. I refuse to consider what I would do if one of mine should suddenly be gone.

Sending you a big hug you ole softy..
go pet and rub CB and tell tell him you love him and it will be OK, and it will be. Just takes time, a LOT of time on occassion.

  4. Sorry to hear that, HJ. But don't give up just yet. We had a cat that disappeared for a couple of months and then showed back up with a new collar. He said the food was good but they kept him in the house too much so he split to come back when they started talking about neutering him. He was almost 17 when he passed in his sleep one night, probably dreaming about the ladies.

  5. Hope whereever Smoky is, he is warm happy and fed. Those kitty kats sure do work their ways into our hearts, don't they? Hope he's just on extended shore leave though.

I have to agree with ChinaSyndrome - Smoky is just spreading his love somewhere where he was needed more. Beautifully said, China!
Maybe Santa will bring you another kitty, not a replacement, just an additional furry baby. Heaven knows the shelters are full of them right now - I'll talk to the fat, bearded man myself, ok?

    Big Hugs -

  7. Good Morning My Special One,
I am so sorry to hear about your roomie being gone. But like a few others said he may still come back. My daughter has a male cat who goes off for long periods of time but always comes back. I have named him tramp. But if Santa finds you a new fur ball to love and Smokey comes back you will have another love in your life . I am sure you can handle all that love. :)

  8. Hey Farmchick...
I do need to find a new playmate for C.B.

He does need someone to teach all his bad habits to! Besides, I just feel for the little guy, being all alone!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by this morning!

    Hey Ben...
Like losing a good friend! I know I should have made him stay around, but I always figured he would show up again, ya know?

Who knows, maybe he still will!

Thanks, buddy, for the visit this morning!

    Hey China...
You can bet he is spreading his own particular type of joy, no matter where he is!

Still, I can't help but kinda miss him!

Hey, thanks for coming over this morning, China!

    Hey OldFurt...
I just kinda keep looking for him each and every day! They sure do get under your skin!

I appreciate you coming by this morning, buddy! Means a lot!

    Hey Anon 7:03...
I wasn't going to let him get to me, but you know he did!

Dang, these animals can sure make you soft pretty quickly, ya know?

Your visit is greatly appreciated this morning!

    Hey Sis...
Yeah, I need to go by the shelter, but it always makes me so sad that I want to take them all!

Maybe I can find someone around the neighborhood that is giving some away!

I appreciate the kind thoughts, Sis, and the visit this morning!

    Hey JoJo...
I thank you for the encouraging words and for the visit, sweetie! You know how much it means to me!

    Thanks and big hugs!

  10. Hey Dizzy...
Sorry about that, my friend! Didn't mean to be a downer this morning!

Being a pet caretaker yourself, you know what I mean!

I do thank you for coming over this morning!

  11. Sorry to hear that, but I had a cat that diappeared for almost a year, only to turn back up and was healthy and fat. I think he got lost and sheltered in with someone else, then got lost again, only to find his way home to us.

Praying your fella will turn up again.
I'm sure his brother is missing him and maybe a buddy would help with that.

My Dd;s cat hates other cats, so she's happy being an only cat! She spoiled just like an only child*wink*

Do you ever serve herbal tea, if not can I bring my own, LOL!!! It's a long walk from MT though :o)

    Blessings and Hugs,
    Kelle

  13. Hey Kelle...
I think I do have some herbal tea somewhere in one of my stashes!

I do appreciate the words of encouragement this morning!

Thanks so much for coming by today!

    Hey Marjie...
I'm sure that where ever he is, he's eating it up! He makes friends pretty easily!

Thank you so much for coming by today, my friend!

  14. It's the chance we take when we let pets run loose. Hope he makes it back, but it's a cruel world out there.

  15. Hey Bob...
I knew it could happen, but like a simpleton I figured "It won't happen to me", ya know what I mean?

The main thing is, as long as he is happy and well cared for I'm OK with it!

Still, he was my bud, ya know?

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

  16. Sorry to hear it, but you still never know. I'm trying to adapt our latest stray to life indoors but I suspect I won't be able to quell his need for the great outdoors.

Like others have said, Smoky may just show back up one of these days, you just never know. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

  19. Hey Terri...
I know that the possibility still exist that he may show, but I think it's rather slim.

Still, like I said, if he iws warm and well fed then I'm happy for him!

    Thanks for coming by today!

    Hey Felinae...
I appreciate the good input. Maybe he'll come by for a visit one of these days!

My cost of cat food has sure dropped since he's been gone! Didn't realize just how much he ate!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

    Hey Andy...
All we can do is to keep watching out for him, just in case!

He knows where the food bowl is and that the door is always opened!

The visit today is greatly appreciated !

  20. da meow does that, he is the stray who decided my bed was comfortable at 4am one morning. He disappears, sometimes days at a time and wanders in on the return as if to say "well, is it fresh water, or did you forget again?" But I still miss Meow Meow, who was poisoned. Know your loss well.

  21. Hey AV...
They really know how to work their way into our hearts!

I think of them more as regular room mates than pets! Crazy? Could be!

Who knows?: Could be he may wander in some day. That would be a surprise!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

  23. Aww, Mister Hermit, sir...sniff...I'm sorry your furling has gone walkabout. It always pains me when one of the four-foots up and goes, even when it's one of the yard cats.

Speaking of yard cats...not that you could REPLACE Smokey, who is a darling sweet fellow (and has likely charmed the socks of some lonely widow down the street and is living it up by the fireplace with tuna and cheddar on crackers every day)...but I may know where you could find a wee friend for CB, and they even speak with a Southern accent.

    Meyow, y'all...
