Live Long And Prosper...!

Star Trek used to be one of my favorite shows!

I know I must have seen every single one of the shows at least two or three times over the years!

The original series has always been my favorite. I didn't care for the spin-offs too much. Of course, Spock was one of the more famous characters and was recognized by nearly everyone in the world with a television!

Sad to see some of the original cast fade away, that's for sure!

Spock attends his last 'Star Trek' convention

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Leonard Nimoy has attended his final "Star Trek" convention.

Actor Leonard Nimoy spoke for an hour about his life and career on Sunday, and thanked fans for their support over the years.

The 80-year-old actor, best-known for playing Mr. Spock in the original TV series that began in September 1966, formed four fingers into a V for Vulcan sign and intoned to fans Spock's most famous phrase: "Live long and prosper" on Sunday in Rosemont, Ill.

Nimoy said the convention in suburban Chicago celebrating the 45th anniversary of "Star Trek" would be his last.

He spoke for an hour about his life and career, and thanked fans for their support over the years. Some held signs saying: "We love you Leonard! Live long & prosper."

Creation Entertainment organizes the "Star Trek" conventions. Company CEO Adam Malin says the company has toured and collaborated with Nimoy for nearly three decades and that Nimoy "will be missed."

A sign of the times, I guess, when slowly but surely our stars of the past start to disappear! Makes us all realize that our time on this planet is limited at best!

Now, my friends, let's get some fresh coffee and sit on the patio. OK?

  1. Though I was more into westerns, I watched it, too. Most of my favorite stars are already gone.

  3. Jim I date back to Flash Gorden Flash Gordon is the hero of a science fiction adventure comic strip originally drawn by Alex Raymond. First published January 7, 1934, the strip was inspired by and created to compete with the already established Buck Rogers adventure strip.
In Australia, the character and strip were retitled Speed Gordon to avoid a negative connotation of the word "Flash". At the time, the predominant meaning of "flash" was "showy", connoting dishonesty.

  4. If you can still deal with airport shenanigans at 85, I think you are doing great. Thank you Mr. Nimoy!

  5. I've been watching the original series on Netflix. It looked so different that when I was was kid. Then I remembered we had a black and white TV back in those days. It's like seeing it for the first time.

  9. Hey Gorges...
So many of the really well known stars are gone!

When you stop and think about it, many of these actors help make the history of early television what it is!

    Thanks for coming over today!

    Hey Ben...
I remember seeing him in several westerns, especially on television. In fact, the character of the doctor was in several westerns as well!

    Gotta start somewhere, I reckon!

Thanks, buddy, for the visit today!

    Hey Ted...
I remember ol' Flash Gorden from the Saturday matinee at the movies!

If memory serves, he was on some of the earlier television shows as well!

Things have really changed, that's for sure!

    Thanks for dropping by today!

    Hey Anon 7:19...
Now ain't that the truth! I wouldn't want to do it, for sure!

    Thanks for coming by!

    Hey Sixbears...
Color sure does add a certain something to a series like Star Trek!

Our first set was a black and white as well! Sure made shows look a lot different than now!

I really thank you for taking the time to come by today!

    Hey Linda...
Seems like they are fading away faster and faster!

I guess that time waits for no man!

Thanks, my friend, for coming over today!

    Hey Tffnguy...
Certainly one of the more quoted characters of the show!

Hey, thanks for the visit today!

    Hey JoJo...
I watched it all the time for years!

They only made 22 shows, I believe, before it was cancelled...but what an impact those 22 shows had on television history!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!

  11. Hey DD...
I think that the original was by far the best of the bunch, mainly because they depended so much on the acting and not the special effects!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

  12. Dammit Jim! I'm a fisherman, not a Trekkie! Ha ha ha, couldn't resist. I used to watch Star Trek re-runs with my Grandpa, so I still watch it every now and then.

  13. I had graduated high school and went to San Diego California to live and watched it in black and white for a long time..It seems just like yesterday..that phrase live long and prosper I use all the time because I thought the program was really about the real life that most people were living and the new frontier of space whereby all people, black, white, latin, asian could live in harmony..almost like peace out to most everyone..now many new generations of youngsters watch it I am told on tv land and other cable network shows..one thing is for sure, gentle tv shows with peaceful messages are getting harder and harder to find and who needs cable, the local stations here buy them up and they show them all the time for free. Too bad people can't be more understanding and kinder to each other, I thought the message of the entire series was a peace out to everyone who watched..a boomer who enjoys the saying, Live long and prosper!
