Remember The Saturday Morning Cartoons...?

Boy, do I ever remember my sisters and I waking up early on Saturday mornings, running into the living room, turning on the television and then sitting there watching the test pattern until the cartoons came on.

Back in those days, the first thing on was the National Anthem with a picture of the flag waving. We all stood up even then! The rest of the morning was filled with Roy Rodgers, Zorro, Sky King, and all the other serial type shows. Then came the cartoon shows!

Ah...the joys of Saturday mornings back then! Of course, as soon as the cartoons were all over, then we all went outside and reenacted the shows we had seen earlier. Cowboys and Indians, Zorro and the bad guys...all of them! I can almost hear the squeals of pure, unadulterated fun right now!

Keeping that thought in mind, I wanted to relive one more Saturday morning like I used to! Grab a spot on the floor and join me!

You know what would make this even better? Some old fashioned hot chocolate and buttered toast! With peanut butter, of course!

I'm starting off with some fresh coffee in the kitchen. I'll cook up some pork sausage to go along with it! OK?

  1. I can't remember us having those saturday morning shows until I was around ten years old. I wonder what I did before that on saturday mornings :-) :-)

But they have started to show Tom and Jerry in the evenings now and I enjoy every second of them :-)

    Have a great day!

  2. Gosh, I enjoyed being a kid again watching this. Thanks for posting it. I'm surprised though at how much violence is in it. I don't think back then anybody really noticed that. Yes, then I remember playing those same games when we went outside. It's the cowboys and Indians one I remember the most but that one kinda bothers me now, looking back, because of what we really did to the Native Americans. Seems like we were living with blinders on back then.
Sorry to be a downer today.

  4. I was a huge fan of the Saturday morning cartoons as a kid -until I figured out it was cutting into my outdoors play. Weekends were too short for much TV.

  5. Ah the good old days. I still have peanut butter toast in the morning. Coffee instead of hot cocoa. My kids bought me some Tom & Jerry dvds as a gag gift. I watch them when I remember I have them.

There are times when I put on Cartoon Network, I wish we had Boomerang, more oldies. ;)

  6. Good stuff, memories are, aren't they? :-) Sounds like you and I had simluar routines on Saturday mornings. I had brothers on the farm so it was always an argument about who would be The Lone Ranger , or Shy King, or Roy. Didn't have horses or airplanes but our bicycles filled the need , from chasing Indians or outlaws on horseback or instantly converted to Airplanes for Sky King or Steve Canyon.
Awww, the imagination and dreams of youth are wasted on the young!

Since I do the comics on Sunday ,why don't you start a regular Saturday thing of putting on our cartoons? :-)

  8. I'm a bit younger, but of course I watched Tom and Jerry and the unforgettable Bugs Bunny. The one I remember though was "Isis". I don't know how long it was on, but I used to climb up on the back of the couch and pretend to fly while chanting "Oh Mighty Isis!".

  9. There were 3 of us kids and back in the day only 1 tv. Whoever got up first got to be the chooser for a show or two, and then the next one up got to pick. We had one really comfy chair,(there was other furniture) and whoever got it first, had to say "Saved" when they got up to do what ever or else the chair was gone, lol. The things my parents would have to think up to be able to sleep in on the weekends. Thanks for the coffee every morning, sure tastes good, maybe I will bring over some cinnamon rolls one morning.

  10. Hey Christer...
I think that folks of all ages still get a kick out of the Saturday cartoons!

Anything that makes us smile is good for the soul, I believe!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

    Hey Gorges...
I don't think that Mom and Dad ever had to tell us to go outside! We did it because we wanted to!

What a world of adventure we could find in our own yard!

We all had a LOT of imagination back then! Some of us still have a bit, I think!

Thank you for dropping by this morning!

    Hey Anon 6:08...
I believe he wanted to take a break from blogging for a while due to some health issues in his family.

    Hopefully he'll come back again!

    Thanks for the visit today!

    Hey Sixbears...
A lot of us used to love the outdoors more than being inside! Guess it stayed with many of us as we grew up.

The imagination of a child is a wonderful thing!

    Thanks for coming by today!

    Hey Rob...
Funny how some of the old habits are hard to break!

I always keep a jar of peanut butter handy, and now no one tells me I can't eat it from the jar! Better yet, I don't have to share with my siblings!

One of the many perks of living alone!

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

    Hey Ben...
I used to do the cartoons every Saturday there for a while! Just got away from it, for some reason!

Growing up on the farm you must have had a million places to build forts and the like!

Wish I could have that kind of fun again!

Thanks, buddy, for coming by and sharing a cup today!

    Hey Momlady...
Glad you liked them, my friend! I always enjoy sharing a bit of silly with my friends!

I'm always happy to see you in the morning! Thanks so much for coming by today!

    Hey Pam and Wayne...
Funny how some of the sayings and theme songs stick in the mind!

Cartoons, especially the older ones, appeal to all ages! Like the one today was from 1948! It's still funny!

Got to have a grin first thing if we can! Smooths the wrinkles out of the rest of the day!

    Thanks for coming by today!

  11. Hey Tea...
I do believe that households with more than one kid were more fortunate than the single ones!

Many things learned about life when you had siblings around!

Boy, now my mouth is watering for some homemade cinnamon rolls! Bring 'em on!

Thanks for dropping by this morning!

  13. Hey Wolfdancer...
Knowing I could contribute to making a child grin helps to make my day!

Glad he enjoyed it, and glad you could come by this morning!

  14. Poor Tom just can't win for losing.

Recently I tried Jimmy Dean Italian sausage. Yum,yum,Yummy! Not enough drippings in his brand for some gravy though.

  15. We didn’t have our first TV set (black and white) until I was 16 years old, so morning cartoons were out. Back then it was the comic section in the weekend newspaper, then outside for the day. We always found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves.

  16. Thanks for the cartoon I love them.
Even my kids were little we would all get a bowl of cereal and sit around watching cartoons like these. Yes they still showed them on Sat. mornings then. OK so it was a long time ago.

  19. I remember the test pattern, then that prayer of a pilot / astronaut describing his flight into high atmosphere. Then Jack Lalaine in jumpsuit and a white coated German Shepard.

Cartoons were pretty awesome, I can still smile to the words 'Kill the Wabbit - kill the wabbit!'
