Very Strong Words...!

This is a very strong speech and it touches home for me each time I hear it.

"Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose.

Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat - the same tightness a man gets when his baby takes his first step or his first baby shaves and makes his first sound as a man.

Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words."-

Colonel David Stern Crockett (August 17, 1786, died March 6, 1836 at the Alamo.)

I couldn't agree more! Now...let's get some fresh coffee, my friend!

  2. Davy had some good old-fashioned common sense, for sure. Sure a serious lack of it in the gov'mint these days.
One of my fave sayings of his is "Be sure you're right, then go ahead." Though sometimes being right can get you killed, it's the better part of Patriotism.

  3. Hey Windjammer...thnks for dropping by and yes, you're right about being able to hear the Duke as he says this little speech.

He had a way of taking a speech and making it sound so real. kinda like my Dad!

Wonder what my Dad would think about everything that's going on today?

  5. Hey Shy...thanks for stopping by!

We could use a few men like Crockett today! I don't feel that we have any Heros, and Lord knows we could use a few!!

  6. Hey RW...glad to see ya this morning! Wouldn't it be nice if we had all the ret quotes as required listening in schools today? One quote at least a day!

Maybe then there would be a more reliable class of politicians growing up!

  7. Just found your blog thru 'Food Storage...A Necessary Adventure' for the 'I Struck Gold...!!' post. What a wonderful post today's was. Thank you. I agree that there are a few words that elicit strong emotions and I wish more young people were exposed to them. However, I'm sure in some inexplicable way quotes like this one would violate someone's rights and would not be allowed.

The rest of your blogs that I read were really good too - already e-mailed my 27 year old son about the Too Good Not to Pass On - he needs some humor today.

  8. Hey Bellen...I really appreciate you dropping by today and I hope you continue to come over from time to time!

You know, it's a shame, but you're right that now days quotes like this could probably be a violation of some law. In fact, some of the quotes made by people like Frankling, Jefferson, Washington, and many more of our forefathers would be considered attacks on the government!

I hope that things get better for us all, but something tells me to keep on hoping for the best while planning for the worst!

Hey, thans again for the kind words and for stopping by! Don't be a stranger!

  9. Nice one Jim! Ahh yes, they do not teach our kids what they should be teaching them. You can tell by the garbage we have representing us in our government. Many of them have gone through the same school system.

    Have a good day!

  11. Hey Lydia...thanks for stopping by. That's one reason it's so important for us to be teaching our kids some values and the best way to do that is to teach by example!

See ya later , my friend!

  15. Davy Crockett...

It makes my heart heavy to hear names like this, and to know that the men and women of a young America are not touted as heroes and larger than life figures in America's classrooms anymore.

When we were kids, we'd run through the oak studded hills of summer waving our imaginary rifles built of sticks( and later BB guns )making our last stand in our tree forts against imaginary foes. Re-enacting the legends of American History.

    I don't see that anymore.

I hope to be able to live to see the day when kids will be as many of us were back then.

  16. I mirror your hopes for that day. Right now we are seeing kids at that age where we were playing with toy guns, now using real guns in drive bys. Even doing drive bys with bicycles...how sick is that?

    Heythanks for coming by Catman!,

  17. Windjammer, the Duke was the one whose voice i 'heard' while reading those words, too.

Good Quote, Uncle! Keep 'em coming!
