I want to play this video...but it's Corney! A lot Corney...so what?
See, that's one of the troubles with folks in today's world. Things like this song are considered Corney! City folks, at least some of them, don't like Corney! They don't understand the attraction of the country!
For the most part, they don't see the attraction of wide open spaces with grass and trees instead of concrete. They don't understand the pure joy of looking across a valley to see the majesty of a snow covered mountain! They don't understand the feeling of wonder in looking up to the night sky at the millions of stars placed on the background of the darkness of space, like white lace on a piece of black satin. They can't understand or hear the music in the simple, yet complex song of even the smallest of birds.
These people take no pleasure in the brilliant color or sweet fragrance of a rose in bloom, or in the fragile beauty of the butterfly as it lands on the soft, welcoming petals. They can't hear the never ending stories being told in the gentle murmurs of an evening breeze.
I can! I understand it! I've seen it, heard it, felt it touch my heart! It makes me warm inside, like looking at the angelic face of a child as they lay sleeping. It gives me a feeling of comfort and completeness, like holding the hand of a mate or lover or dear friend!
The pictures say a lot...the words say even more!
See? Like I said, CORNEY! But only for some. Only for the people that would never understand the pure happiness of simply sitting across a table from an old friend and sharing a nice, fresh cup of coffee! No need to talk...because we understand! We get it!
TRUE MY FRIEND . I DRIVE A TRUCK SO I'M GONE A LOT . AND WHEN I READ MY BLOG ROLL I DRINK COFFEE AND HAVE BUT SILINCE SO TIP THE CUP AND KEEEP THE POT ON THE FIRE.
ReplyDeleteMADDOG
Put another cup on the table-I'll be right there.
ReplyDeleteWell said. Best version of that song I've heard too - Enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed by those that wear Ipods (or whatever they are) to do everything, even go hiking because they need a soundtrack going to calm their thoughts or motivate or ???
As I started writing this comment a coyote sang into the dwindling night. Pretty cool greeting to another day as I sit here reading and enjoying a warm beverage.
Another great post. Keep it up.
Well I do listen to my MP3 player when mucking the barn and corals.
ReplyDeleteHome on the Range, my boys and I sing that all the time. I so love the open prairie, and I once was a city, well suburban gal.
Hey Maddog...glad you could come by today. My dad was a trucker, so I know about the long trips with no company...and keeping the coffee going for the home trips!
ReplyDeleteHey Tony...your place is always waiting, my man. Thanks for coming by and welcome anytime.
Hey Mo...great way to start the day indeed. Gives you a great feeling, I'll bet! Hey, thanks for coming by, my friend!
Hey Phelan...bet you are happier in the country than the 'burbs, huh? I imagine that music does make the mucking go a little quicker.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to visit!
Nothing corny about it, Jim.
ReplyDeleteI think the sentiments expressed in that song are part of every American's psyche, even if they don't realize it.
Hey Catman...sometimes when a song is played, you just have a certain feeling as the words start to register. Sometimes they sum up all that we are thinking in the back of our minds...
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by today!
Makes me miss "the homeplace".
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hey Meadowlark...be it ever so humbler...there's no place like home!
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for stopping by!
Thanks Jim! Makes my morning coffee taste a little sweeter!
ReplyDeleteRW
Hey RW...it does go good with the coffee, doesn't it? Hey, always a pleasure to have you drop by!
ReplyDeleteI understand it too. I think that was a great video. The simple beauty of the country will always make my soul sing. I feel sorry for all the people who don't get it. They don't know what they're missing!
ReplyDeleteI do wear my Ipod when working on the van, but I'd never dream of wearing it while hiking!
Thanks for the coffee, Hermit.
Hey Maitreya...I appreciate you coming by today! How is the van coming?
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I knew you would be one of the ones that did get it. Country at heart, huh?
Thanks again for coming by!
Hey Jim? I grew up in the Country as well, even if Bielarus Country-side!
ReplyDeleteBut hey, isn't that Elivs Presley singing that song? Sure reminds me of him.
js
Hey John...that's Marty Robbins singing...
ReplyDeleteDidn't know you grew up in the country! Interesting...
Thanks for the visit today!
The country will always be in my heart. I was raised in my Mom's big vegetable garden, where I would 'graze' for lunch during a hard day of climbing trees and building forts. An apple picked from the tree sure tastes good when nursing your wounds after a guerrilla pinecone fight.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for all the 'plugged in' kids.
Hey Maitreya...I love the phrase "guerrilla pinecone fight"! What a perfect description of a hard day's playing in the yard.
ReplyDeleteGrazing in the garden does remind me of some of my adventures as a kid.
Thanks for the comment!
Buffalo... buffalo... Don't they roam down by Lake Houston?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Ashley
Hey man, I enjoy your blog. I enjoy a lot of things you listed- night skies, wide open spaces, small animal mutilation (wait, maybe that's just me :-). But I would like to speak for those who believe in prepping, but come at it from a non-conventional viewpoint. I agree with you... that song is corny. That's cool. I could sit down and share some coffee with you while listening to it. But I would be wishing we were listening to this:

Thanks for the blog

Hey Ashley...thanks for the visit. I don't know if there are any buffalo out by Lake Houston, but if there were they probably ended up on someone's grill.
ReplyDeleteHey Humongus...I appreciate the visit. Always an extra spot at the patio table for a visitor...
Thanks for coming by and for the kind comments.
Yes, Jim, I recall the good ol' days where me and my best friend would venture 2 Km out to the railroad and collect discarded wooden boards and such, bring them back to my landlady and get rewarded with some soup, and maybe some sour cream to go with that. She used them as lids, to cover large pails of whatever she had in there.
ReplyDeleteThose were the days!

Hey John...I think food as a reward for young boys is not a bad idea! Must have worked, huh?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit!
