Saturday Ramblings...!

If your place is like mine, it's sure been windy as of late.

I did some research in the Almanac, and I found this little tidbit for you. It sort of explains it...or at least makes it interesting to think about.

The wind plays an important part in lore and history. It’s known as a weather maker, as in the phrase “winter winds doth blow and we shall have snow.”

• Sir Francis Bacon (1561–1626) knew that “every wind has its weather.” “The Devil is busy in a high wind,” it’s said, but “westerly winds are fair weather winds.”

• Benjamin Franklin (1706–90) suggested, “Do business with men when the wind is in the northwest when the barometer is high.”

• When we catch a cold, we catch it from the winds, some say; another saying states, “the east wind brings aches and pains.”

• The ancients thought of wind as a messenger; in a way, that was the role of the fictional Mary Poppins, who came and left on the winds.

Just a little something to start your weekend off, ya know?

Coffee on the patio today! Have a good one...!

  1. H.J.,
You are right on, yet again. The wind blew fierce here yesterday and this morning it snowed! You are a mighty soothsayer!
    Thanks!

  3. Someone did a song about the eastern wind. Now what was his name? I'll have to dig out his album - I loved that song.

We are having more wind than usual. Past week it whipped a stack of 4 chairs straight across the porch. Powerful it was. Hmm, all the weather anymore is "more than usual". Makes one ponder.

It does seem to me that the wind has been a bit stronger than usual. Blows around anything not tied down!

A lot of good songs have been written about the wind...as ol' Ben pointed out!

  9. Hey JoJo...
Yep1 The pollen count here is pretty high as well. Luckily, I'm not allergic to anything (except maybe hard work), so I don't sneeze a lot!

I thank you, Sweetie, for joining me on the patio!

  12. This week was the second phaze of the change in DC.The seed of change has been planted. Now its up to us as AMERICANS to shape it for the good of the nation. Because we are a country of free speech there are times we have to tolerate hate mungers . But there comes a time as it did with Joseph McCarthy that they are exposed for what they are An now is the time for these losers.

  13. Hey Mechanic...
When are you folks gonna get some Spring? I'll bet a little warmth and some sunny days would be welcome!

Thanks for coming by, my friend!

    Hey Ted...
I think all of us are getting a taste of ill winds this last week!

Better things are coming soon, I hope!

    Thanks for the visit today!

  14. Hey Ted...
I think without a doubt, that the truth will win out over all the hate mongers and the like.

We can only hope that the seeds planted will at least draw enough of us to work together to make things better!

    Thanks again!

  15. HJ I'm going to bend you thoughts to ( WATER FOR FUEL) there a lot of scams out there ,But it can be done and is.By using high voltage and high frequency they are able to seprate the two gases using very small amount of energy.Just think go out and give your car a glass of water and drive to work.HJ look on GOOGLE (water for fuel) but don't believe everthing you read.

  16. Sometimes we get such a wind here, when it blows I wonder if I could put a bedsheet on a frame, don roller-skates, and go for a ride. The trees bend and bob, and even the grass shimmies in it. We get them more often now than in the past, a result (I am sure) of too much developement and loss of forest...that wind, he likes open spaces to play in!

Thanks for the nifty info, Mister Hermit, sir.

    Shade and Sweetwater,
    K
