How About Wigs And Body Parts...?
That got your attention, didn't it?
Here's the thing! As I may have mentioned in the past, my Mother was a doll maker at one time. She had a lot of friends that were into making and collecting dolls and all the accessories that go with that hobby (like wigs, hand-made clothes, and such).
Late last year, one of my Mom's friends, a fellow doll maker, passed away! Her husband was left with a large number of dolls, complete with everything needed to make the dolls from scratch, dress them, and sell them.
This poor gentleman, in his 70's, is completely at a loss as to what to do with all this stuff. Mom and her other doll making friends are doing what they can to help him get rid of all this stuff...but everyone is sort of overwhelmed by the large amount of items involved.
This man just wants to rid his house of these constant reminders of his personal tragedy, and I told them I would mention it on my blog here and see if anyone is interested.
I know that things like the molds for pouring porcelain dolls and doll wigs are not real popular items right now, but if you might know anyone that could be interested...please just drop me a note. I know that he has talked about just giving away some of the molds to anyone wanting to come and pick them up.
Free is a pretty good price! These things are just too heavy to ship, and there are roughly 50 or more of them! Anyway, if you know of anyone interested...or if you need more information, send me an email. I'll give you my phone number and we can get whatever info you might need, OK?
I appreciate your help here, guys and gals. We may not be able to help, but all we can do is to try, right?
Fresh coffee on the patio sound good this morning? It does to me, also!
I hope You´ll find lots of people that wants these things! I´m sure that those dolls will become popular again soon!
ReplyDeleteChrister.
Might be worthwhile to check out area craft shops to see if there are any serious dollmakers or groups in his area. Wish I could help, but I don't know anyone in this area. Good of you to help! . . . .Hey! We have rain!!
ReplyDelete~Liz
Where are all these lovely things located? If it's close to Northern Indiana, I'd be glad to go get them, but if it's in Texas.....guess not.
ReplyDeleteIf I could get an idea of how much the postage is I would be very interested and happy to pay to ship the kit and kaboodle. Let me know.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am not into dolls and making them , I can understand the fellows issues. When my wife passed away I too was left with tons of stuff that was "hers".I was able to find a good use for the clothes at an abused women s shelter. But to this day there is still stuff that she did, like the sewing cabinet and stuff. It was never MY stuff. and it reminds me of her every time I see it.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to your friend.
Good Morning my Special One,
ReplyDeleteIf someone can hold a sale for a charity of his choice that may help. I know how heavy molds can be and to ship them it would cost a bundle. Or even contact his favorite charity and they may do all the work. Hope this is of some help.
Coffee with my favorite freinds sounds wonderful. Temps here are hitting high 80' and low 90' already.
Hey Christer...
ReplyDeleteMom used to teach doll making, as well as make dolls for sale. She still has customers that call from time to time, but at her age...she just can't do it any longer!
I hope that someone can use some of this stuff, but this is not a cheap hobby!
Hey, thanks for coming by today!
Hey LizBeth...
I appreciate the thought, my friend.
There are just so many clothes, trimmed with lace and the like, that with the wigs and dresses and everything else...lots of stuff.
I may have to put a posting on Craigslist for them. I do hope that I can be of some help.
Hey, I appreciate the visit today, my friend!
Hey Trailshome...
Unfortunately, all this stuff is located here in Houston. Kind of a long way from Indiana...!
I appreciate the thought, though. Also, I appreciate the visit!
Hey Sissy...
I have no idea what it would cost to ship the molds, but they are really heavy! Plus, being plaster there is a good chance of some breakage.
If you need more information about any of the particulars, email me at hermitjim@gmail.com and I'll give you my phone number!
Thanks for coming by today!
Hey Ben...
I never had to go through that, but I can only imagine what it must be like!
I'm hoping that this gentleman can reclaim his home and clear some of the reminders away!
Hey, you have a good weekend, buddy! Thanks for coming by!
Hey JoJo...
I'm going to try everything I can think of to help resove this situation!
Just not many people doing doll making now days, ya know?
I have to admit, they are really nice when finished...but it is a time consuming hobby!
Hwy, sweetie...thanks so much for coming by today!
Try some antique malls or shops in your area. These people thrive on the free price. Good luck with the venture.
ReplyDeleteHey Mechanic...
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try all the avenues, for sure. I appreciate the suggestion...and the visit today!
Jim
ReplyDeleteCraigs List, in Houston, San Antonio and Austin. People are willing to drive for some things.
Freecycle, adult education classes.
any doll clubs in the area?
a quilters club may be able to help too.
chamber of commerce may have listings of doll conventions.
good luck to you and your firend. I know it is difficult. I am downsizing now, so no one has to do it later. After all, how many dishes do two old persons really need???
AnnaMouse
Hey Anna...
ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand the downsizing thing, as my Mom has been thinking about it for a long time.
Having been involved in crafts of different kinds most of her adult life, she has so many things (like doll making supplies) that she has to do something with.
Add to that the fact that she is an avid quilter and loves to sew...and you can imagine all the material and lace and etc. she has around!
I do appreciate your input and your visit today!
Aww, Mister Hermit, sir - having seen some of Nanny's work and some of the beautiful things she is trying to help find homes for...I wish I could take up another hobby and that I lived closer!
ReplyDeleteI hope they find a good and loving home, those molds and whatnot...
Shade and Sweetwater,
K (who already has a room full of crafting supplies and who fears her Mum would smack her soundly for taking up a new hobby!)
