Makes a big difference when you can back up your best fishing tale with not only witnesses, but with pictures! How good is that?

A Ferndale fisherman had a close encounter with a bald eagle a few weeks ago.
Bruce Huntley was fishing on Lake Padden near Bellingham with buddy Rick Warren when the eagle swooped down and snatched the fish on his line just 10 feet in front of his boat.
Huntley told the Bellingham Herald that the bird "scared the holy bejesus" out of him.
Warren had his camera with him and got a couple great shots of the eagle. He told the Herald that getting the shots was a lot better than catching a fish.
I'll bet that this ol' boy's fishing tales will carry a lot more weight now! He might be able to get a job as a fishing guide for those that only want to fish with a camera!
What a great shot! Wanna bet he has 'em framed?
Coffee outside this morning, but we might have to head to the kitchen when the rain starts!
Those eagles can be downright pesky. We had a similar situation with one when we were fishing off Vancouver Island. I sure do understand why that guy would be scared - when an eagle comes bombing down at you, there is a very eerie whistling sound and then boom - they are right on top of you. A most beautiful and amazing bird.
ReplyDeleteHey 2 Tramps...
ReplyDeleteI can see where that would get your attention! Might make you a tad nervous as well!
Never been quite that close to one, but I would like to have a good up close shot (with a camera) of one!
Thanks for coming by today!
Amazing photos! Love watching them soar through the sky!
ReplyDeleteCoffee on the patio is fine - I'll bring the windmill cookies!
Hey I keep telling my family that I caught a bigger fish than them ... mine was just stolen but a large eagle, or a bear, or maybe a cougar... Now I have proof. Thanks Hermit ;-)
ReplyDeleteAlways love it when you can back up a story with pictures. That way friends have to believe you. Great story!
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago an eagle made three passes at a fish Terry was reeling in, it sure wanted that fish.
ReplyDeleteWhat luck to have that camera ready. Maybe I can use that story when I don't catch anything.
ReplyDeleteCoffee on the patio on a cloudy day adds to the relaxing part.
I've seen an eagle steal a fish from an osprey in mid air. The eagle attacked the osprey and it dropped its fish. Then the eagle dove under the osprey an snatched the fish out of the air.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid fishing from that bank of a lake, I caught a duck. Didn't want to but he grabbed my bait as it hit the water. What a fight. Couldn't get it up the bank to unhook it so just cut the line.
ReplyDeleteHey Phyllis...
ReplyDeleteThey are a majestic bird to watch, that's for sure!
This would make me watch my back!
Thanks for bringing the cookies and for coming over today!

Hey Sixbears...
Guess eagles can be bullies in the air when they want!
I understand that in Alaska, they will attack fishermen and even folks walking down the street! Happens mostly when the birds are nesting!
Pretty scary to have one after you!
Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!
Hey Dizzy...
Sounds like what the sea gulls do from time to time on the coast!
They can certainly put up a strong fight, just like you said!
Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!
The pictures says it all. It narrates the full story. The Bald Eagle is looking magestic!
