Good News For Me...!

Well, it's about time for a little good news for the hermit. In a time when all the media seems to put forward nothing but one bad news story after another, it is refreshing to get hold of something positive!

As you know, or should know, I love my coffee! I just read that if I continue to drink coffee like I want to, I stand a good chance of not coming down with dementia! Take a look!

People who drink coffee during middle age are less likely to have dementia or Alzheimer's disease later in life, according to a study in Finland.

Researchers from the University of Kuopio looked at 1,409 people who had beenevaluated every five years from 1972 to 1987 and then again in 1998 when they were between 65 and 79 years old.

Sixty-one of them, 4.3 percent, had some form of dementia.

People who drank three to five cups of coffee around their midlife examination in 1987 had a 65 percent lower risk of having dementia, researchers said.

See...? I always knew that drinking coffee was good for ya! I really did ! So what do you say? Let's stay smart by having a fresh cup of coffee, my friend!

  1. Well, would you rather be demented or stuck in the can because your bladder is always full? Tough choice there, Jim! ;-)

  3. Hey Catman...good question! I guess that if I had to chose, I'd go for the full bladder! I seem to forget have of what I know anyway, so maybe the extra time would help me to remember what I forgot!

    Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Nomad...good to see ya this morning! I guess that in some ways a bad memory is a good thing! The phrase comes to mind " I don't remember how I got here, but I like it, so I'll stay!"

    Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Hey MM...sounds like me! I don't mind losing some of my memory as long as it isn't anything important, like the location of the coffee pot!

Thanks for dropping by, my friend!

  6. MMMM, gotta love that coffee. Three or four pots a day when it's slow. Now if I can jsut remember to buy coffee when I go to the store.
But maybe after next Tuesday I'll just wanna forget everything, anyway, so why bother remembering to buy coffee?

  7. Hey Shy...just do like me and get a bottle of your favorite snakebite medecine and put some (or a LOT) in your coffee Tuesday.

Makes everything look a little better, ya know?

Hey, thanks for the visit, my man!

  8. Hi Jim! What great news!!! With all the coffee I drink I can probably pass on some of my non dementia state to others who don't like coffee! That's great news.

What did they say about peanut Butter? Well, I don't really like it, just looking out for you. ;)

    Have a good Sunday!
    :)

  13. Husband & I think the news about coffee is fantastic. We now make most of our coffee, 2 quarts a day, in our sun oven. Think I'll supplement with a half pot in the afternoon while the sun oven takes care of our dinner.

Hope the weather's nice where you are - we had to open the windows here in SW Florida.

  14. Hey Ken...been wondering where you were! I'm like you, drinking about 2 or 3 pots a day and into the night! I used to drink a lot of sweet tea, but for some reason, I gave it up. Mostly coffee and water now...cold water!

I do give in and have an occasional diet coke...damn things are habit forming, ya know?

Hey Bellen...good to see ya again! I need to learn more about cooking with a sun oven. That part of my training is sadly lacking!

Maybe you could share your knowledge with us a bit! hey, thanks for coming by!

  15. Hi! today's dinner is beef stew. Simply fixed the stew the way I always do (browned the meat, added onions, carrots, potatoes, canned tomatoes, beef broth and seasonings) put it in a dark lidded graniteware pot and put it in the sun oven. In at 10am out at 3pm. Had to rotate the oven twice to get the full sun - in about 4 weeks the sun will be high enough not to have to rotate. By March the cooking time will also lessen.

Just put in 2 more quarts of coffee - 1/3 cup ground coffee and fill the canning jar with water, screw on the lids and put in oven for 40 min.

It's like using a crock pot without ever having to worry if something will burn or dry out. Bellen

  17. What about those of us who were already demented? Guess it couldn't hurt! At least I'll remember where the Samovar I need to talk to is...

  18. In some cases, like you and me, I'm not sure if there's hope or not!

    But we'll keep trying!
