My Friends, Please Be Careful...!

Today is Halloween. This means that a lot of little trick or treaters will be out and about on the streets and the sidewalks!

You know and I know that children can get all caught up in the excitement of the candy, the costumes, and the company of friends...not to mention the constant wonder of how much loot is in the bag!

The point is...please watch out for all the ghosts and goblins out there because on nights like this, they often don't watch out for themselves!

I know it sounds like I'm preaching a bit here...and the truth is, I probably am! I just don't want the mood and the laughter of the evening turning into a sad, avoidable night of sadness!

Just one more thing...and I hope that I'm not out of line here, but please be careful with the alcohol! I know there will be parties going on, and sometimes the booze flows a little freely! All I ask is for a small favor, OK?

Be very, very careful and please...whatever you do, KEEP ALL THE BOOZE AWAY FROM THE PUMPKINS!!

They are a sorry sight when they get under the spell, don't ya know? Not to mention how messy they are! Bad enough to have to clean up the candy wrappers and pieces of costumes and lost sneakers...without having to clean up after a bunch of drunk Pumpkin-heads!

Now, my friends, let's get some coffee and sit outside for just a bit, OK? Don't worry, I'll help you clean up later!

  1. Thank you for the reminder, Uncle Hermit, I don't think one can be reminded enough when it comes to the safety and well being of children.

I have to work, but will be home in time to get into my costume and hand out candy to the little kids, teens or adults that care to come to our door asking for a treat.

Have a safe Halloween, my friend

  15. Gee, Mister Hermit, sir - Drunken Pumpkins sounds like a terrific punk band name...

We're carving pumpkins and roasting seeds here - I'll send you a pic or two once I've loaded them on the machine. Bread's been baking all morning, the house smells lovely, and friends are on their way over to eat, drum, and be merry. No worries, though - we're none of us much for the drink. Eight of us and maybe we'll finish one bottle of wine.

The pumpkins, though...you have to watch out for those things, they're wily...

    Shade and Sweetwater,
K (insert best witchy cackle here)

Sounds like your crowd is all set for a good night! I.m looking forward to the pictures !

Don't worry...I'll keep the eyes open for the Wily Pumpkins!

Thanks for coming by...and tell everyone "Hello" from the Hermit!

We have an old fashioned Halloween the night before complete with trick or treating, cookout and haunted houses and haunted trails. Such fun- many memories. Good times!

  20. Hey ER...
At least it saves on the candy bill, right? It's a shame that folks don't want to go down a nice country lane under the light of the moon...good place for an ambush by "Monsters"!

  21. This year we sat on the stoop and handed out candy to the little ones while I had a big mug of cocoa with about 2 ounces of Jack in it. I thought about getting a case of beer to give to the parents but that would have required going to another store which would have been a pain.
