Shaking Things Up In Texas...!

Well, I have found just one more reason to be ready for anything!

This is a very good example of why we should continue to prep and try to be ready for ANY disaster! This one could have been a lot worse...and if nothing else, I'll bet that it opened up the eyes of a LOT of folks, if you know what I mean!

Small quake hits near Alice in South Texas

ALICE — A small earthquake has rattled awake some residents in South Texas.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 4.0-magnitude earthquake hit an area near Alice, about 50 miles west of Corpus Christi, around 9:10 p.m. Saturday. No damage or injuries have been reported.

But numerous residents felt the quake. The Alice Echo-News Journal reports that calls flooded the Alice police department in Jim Wells County and the sheriff's office in neighboring Nueces County.

A 3.8-magnitude quake was reported in Jim Wells County in March 1997.

This is getting pretty close to home, folks! Pretty close to home, indeed! In fact, Alice is only about 240 miles from Houston!

I can only wonder what would happen with the local freeway system if this had been in the Houston area, ya know? Scary...!

Now, my friends, let's get some fresh coffee and sit outside for a bit. We can speculate on what could happen next time...!

  1. We have those small ones here to once in a whileWe don´t live near any bigger fault lines so they will not be bigger thankfully! I found a map that shows different fault lines in the world and there is one close to You like it is one close to where I live. But those aren´t the ones that gives the big earthquakes. Here´s the adress : http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ypalM7eSBEQ/SdzT_ajylVI/AAAAAAAAAbM/XNB1-z6lvKg/s1600-h/tectonic_map.jpg

But it is kind of scary even if they are small quakes :-) :-)
    Have a great day now!

  2. It is said that the further one is from the last earthquake the closer one is to the next. I'm not a rabid tree huggin' dirt worshipper, but I do believe our Mother is letting us know her displeasure at how she is being treated.

  3. Wow, thats just up the road about about 90 miles from where I'm at. My uncle's family lives in Ben Bolt, have to mention this to Mom.

Maybe I need to take a look at earthquake insurance, lol. Maybe Mexican cartels have a 'secret weapon'.

Just told this to a coworker nearby - he claims maybe a pachanga and an extra amount of eaten beans could have caused this, lol.

  4. Good Morning My Special Friend, Yes there have been a few small ones hitting around lately. A few weeks ago there was one in Mexico an the CA. border I was camping and the awning snapped pretty hard, I realized it couldn't be wind there wasn't any. It wasn't until I returned a few days later that there had been a quake. Pretty weird feeling.
I will bring a fresh ground pot of coffee over.

  5. Hey Christer...
I can imagine that the folks living around that area were pretty rattled when it happened! Of all the things you don't expect in Texas, an earthquake is probably at the top of the list!

I appreciate the link, and the visit thi morning!

    Hey Momlady...
I think you're certainly right about that! Sooner or later, we need to realize that these things are happening for a reason!

Hey, I do appreciate you coming by today!

    Hey Anon 7:55...
Whatever the cause, I think that being in a flat area id certainly a good thing at a time this was going on...

About the cause, that' as good a reason as any, I reckon! I just didn't know beans would have that effect! Guess I should slow my intake down a bit!

    Thanks for coming by today!

    Hey JoJo...
You were lucky that you just caught the tail end of it! Glad it let you alone, for sure!
Don't want anything happening to ya!

Thanks for the visit this moening, Sweetie!

  6. Up here around the DFW area, we had some earlier this year and last. Of course the locals tried to blame it all on the natural gas wells going in .

I am surprised Al Gore hasn't gotten all over this and tried to tie it to his Massive Global Warming theory.

And just last night on 60 Minutes they had a long bit with the people out in LA about the new Bay bridge that they are building to be earth quake proof.

  7. Hey Ben...
It surprises me for some reason, to hear of earthquakes in Texas! Don't know why it should...

That earthquake proof bridge sounds like a way to get from one disaster area to another disaster are if the big one comes!

Wonder if it will be like the "unsinkable Titanic"? Don't want to be there to find out, that's for sure!

hey, thanks, my friend, for coming by today!
