Still Searching For The Perfect Brisket Recipe...!

For several years now I have been on the look out for the perfect brisket and chili recipes!

These two things can make a delicious meal when done right...and they don't cost a lot to feed a bunch of folks!

I've tried a multitude of recipes in the search for the perfect one...but still I haven't found "the One", if you know what I mean?

I do admit, though, some of the ones I've found are pretty darn good! I'm trying out a new one today that can be done in the crock pot! That's my kind of cooking, especially in the summer!
Here's one from the folks at Allrecipes.com

Slow Cooker Beef Brisket

1 three pound brisket
2 bottles chili sauce (12 ounce ea.)
1 pack Onion soup mix
2 Teaspoons garlic powder

Place the brisket in a slow cooker. In a medium bowl, mix together the chili sauce, onion soup mix, and garlic powder. Pour over the brisket.

Cover and cook on the low setting for 8 to 10 hours.

Slice the brisket against the grain, and pour the extra gravy over the slices!

Now, this is just about as simple as it gets! Plus you don't have to worry about getting the kitchen too hot or burning and over cooking the brisket!

I'm thinking that some smashed 'taters and fresh baked bread would make this a nearly perfect meal!

Shoot! Now I'm hungry again! Guess I'll go have a bologna sandwich until the brisket is done!

Now, my friends, how about some coffee on the patio? If we hurry, we can beat the heat!

  1. Jim? You not really going to ruin a good ole brisket with all that bottled Sauce are you? Please!!! NO!!! Come on up here and I'll take you to one of the top 10 BBQ places in the state and if you don't like it, well, you don't have to eat it!
That recipe sounds like some Yankee fixins!! But Love ya anyway Dude! :-)

  2. Yep, sounds like an easy way to do a brisket. And I will join you with that cup of coffee.

What type of coffee do you like? I drink all kinds, but prefer really strong Columbian. My wife does not. I have one of those funnel coffee makers that sits on top of a cup. Put in a filter, 4 or 5 heaping tablespoons of real Columbian grounds, slowly pour in boiling water, and "presto" a perfect cup of "get up and go".

    Have a good day,

  3. Good Morning My Special One,
What time are you serving up that brisket?
WOW Dizzy, now I like my colubian coffee but that sounds strong even to me. :)
and that makes for good conversation around the patio today what kind of coffee do we all like.
    Hugs

  4. Mmmmm! Brisket cooked over mesquite long and slow so it'll melt in your mouth. Flavored with jalapenos and hubeneros and a good homemade Bar-B-Que sauce. Now that's living!
Dizzy has a good idea for coffee, too.

  6. Hey Ben...
Sounds pretty bad that I would mess up and use commercial sauce, doesn't it?

Getting lazy in my old age! What I was doing is looking for something I could cook in the crock pot!

Might have to make a run up that way, if only for the brisket...

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

    Hey Dizzy...
As far as coffee goes, I really have two favorites! One of them is Arabica...and the other is Dark Columbian! I like them both strong!

I do like my coffee, that's for sure!

    Thanks for coming by today!

    Hey JoJo...
Yep...does sound pretty strong! But we can handle it, right?

When the conversation centers around food and coffee, how can you go wrong?

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!

    Hey YOF...
ya know, I haven't had any good ol' mesquite BBQ since I had some in Corpus Christi! At that time, we had some javalina and it was pretty good!

Man, my mouth is starting to water pretty good now!

    Thanks for coming over, buddy!

  7. Hey Mayberry...
That's sort of like fixin' ribs in the oven, huh?

Maybe I should stick to a grill for the meat, ya reckon?

OK, guys...I can take the hint! You can put the rope down now!

Hey, thanks for coming by today, buddy!

I volunteer to be the judge for the brisket contest. Thanks for a great recipe. It's going in the recipe book with all my mothers great recipes. I don't have brisket for tonite so I think I'll grill some venison.

  9. Hey Mechanic...
Might have to stand in line for the judge's spot! Maybe we can cook up enough to go around!

Boy, that sure sounds like fun! Maybe we could all go up to Ben's place...he has a big ol' YARD, so there should be plenty of room!

Maybe we should mention it to him before we just show up, though!

Hey, thanks for coming by today, buddy!

Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees
    By George Kiriyama
    NBCBayArea.com
    updated 5:50 a.m. PT, Thurs., May 6, 2010

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli
and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with
the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially
on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch
break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American
flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to
turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the
boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli said, "but
today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be
their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts "incendiary" that
would lead to fights on campus.

"They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken
off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic
    Maciel, Galli's friend, said.

The boys really had no choice, and went home to avoid suspension. They
say they're angry they were not allowed to express their American pride.
Their parents are just as upset, calling what happened to their
    children, "total nonsense."

"I think it's absolutely ridiculous," Julie Fagerstrom, Maciel's mom,
said. "All they were doing was displaying their patriotic nature.
    They're expressing their individuality."

But to many Mexican-American students at Live Oak, this was a big deal.
They say they were offended by the five boys and others for wearing
American colors on a Mexican holiday.

"I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day,"
Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be
get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July."

As for an apology, the boys and their families say, "fat chance."

"I'm not going to apologize. I did nothing wrong," Galli said. "I went
along with my normal day. I might have worn an American flag, but I'm an
American and I'm proud to be an American."

The five boys and their families met with a Morgan Hill Unified School
District official Wednesday night. The district released a statement
saying it does not agree with how Live Oak High School administrators
    handled this incident.

The boys will not be suspended and they were told they can go back to
school Thursday. They may even wear their red, white, and blue colors
again, but this time, the day after Cinco de Mayo, there will be no
    controversy.

  14. Mmmm... brisket! A good ole homemade sauce is always perfect, but hey... why not take a short cut now and then? I'll eat brisket just about any way you cook it, so it's all good in my book!
As for coffee? I like mine 100% Columbian and I like it STRONG. No messin' with that sugar and cream stuff either! Just straight, black, strong coffee for this girl! And I like it all through the day as well...mmm!

  15. Place brisket fat side down in heavy pan or pirex dish, rub with your favorite rub, cook 1hr at 400 deg, reduce heat to 350, add beef broth to come up 1/2" on brisket, cover tightly with foil and bake 3 hrs.
Remove from oven (careful, a lot of juice), let meat rest, get as much fat off juice as possible and reduce by 1/2 to serve with meat.

  17. I will not call for any rope in your case :-) on the contrary I thank you because I am terrible in the kitchen. I think even I can follow this recipe!!

  18. Let's fix that recipe....
    1 three pound brisket
    1 teaspoon tarragon
    1 teaspoon cumin
    1 tablespoon minced garlic (fresh!)
    1/2 cup red plum jelly
    1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 spanish red onion, cut in thick slices
    2 cups water
NOW...mix all that together in a bowl (except the brisket)
Place the brisket in a slow cooker, pour other ingredients over brisket and proceed.

Cover and cook on the low setting for 8 to 10 hours.

Take brisket out, baste with sauce in crockpot and put brisket under broiler to get a bit of a char on it, flip and char other side.
Pour liquid from slow cooker through colander/strainer into sauce pan.
Reduce sauce from slow cooker until thickened, serve with brisket.

Slice the brisket against the grain, and pour the extra gravy over the slices!
