One Of Those Days...!

Today is the day of our family Christmas tree.

This is really one of the things about the holidays that I really don't care for! In fact, if it weren't for Mom...I wouldn't be doing this at all!

I think I've said before that Christmas is NOT one of my favorite holidays, especially one that involves family.

That's because some folks that should come, won't! Some will come that shouldn't! Some will bring food, some will not! Some will be friendly, some will argue!

In the end, this is for Mom and she should be given a break from having to do all of the getting ready and cooking and decorating! She should be free to just sit and enjoy herself!

I help when I can, but it's really not that much. Anyway, I'm here!

The thing I'm looking forward to the most is for this day to end without any major drama, and everyone getting home safely!

Let's get some fresh coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit, before the madness starts! OK?

  3. Good Morning My Special One,
I'm sorry you have to deal with this. It does get old who doesn't speak to this one or that one who won't come because of this. I now have to do 2 says instead of one. But it works and I don't go out of my way to cook all kindss of things. But folks in your mom's generation need to do this its what they know. She is a very special person so chin up smile and go with the flow. I wish I still had my folks. Love to you both.

  4. Aww, Mister Hermit sir - sorry we won't be there to help. I hope it goes smoothly.

Decorating at Casa de Crazy was minimal this year, but we have a tree in the window and lights on the arbor, and I like to light 'em up when it gets dark out...makes me happy in a silly little way.

    Happy Christmahannukwanzika to ya!

  8. My childhood Christmas memories are not great so it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth for this holiday and still does. Glad when it is over with too.

  9. Man, glad to see I'm not alone in this whole Christmas thing. It used to depress me, but now I just go with the flow. The time off from work is good, but it is a kind of a racket that I could live without usually too.

  10. I am relieved that this year we're not near family. Last year we stayed home and my Dad, who was living with us, made the rounds. Peace on earth reigned at our house, which was all I wanted.

I stopped decorating and gift buying a few years ago, except for the five grandkids. This year I sent each $20 in a card with a note. If I don't get any thank you's this year then I'm done with that too.

The Christmas card list was shorter too. Crossed 12 addresses off the list because they've passed on. bummer.

I view it as another day in the week. The next day people will be lined up for returns or after Christmas sale or complaining about what they got.

    Nuts.

  11. Wow, HermitJim, you sure struck a chord with this post. I can understand where you are coming from. We don't really have any big family get-gethers. My mom is still with us and spending the holidays here in VA, but the 2 aunts and uncles have passed on and the cousins don't really get together. A couple do setill send cards and that's something. I DO send cards and will most likely continue to do so because most are to friends and that's one of the nicest things about the holidays - keeping in contact with folks we do like and enjoy. Hope the day turned out OK for your mom especially.
