Longfellow Talks To Me...!

I found this poem for my Mom, because she had seen a small portion in a book and liked it.

After reading the poem, I realized that the words struck a chord with me and would probably do the same with some of my readers. So, that's why I chose to post it here today. You may have read it before, but even if you have, another read might be in order. At my age, this poem has a lot more meaning than it did back when I was young. Guess that happens as you get older!

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
   Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
   Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

Does it ring a bell with you? If nothing else, it makes for some interesting reading, don't you think?

Coffee in the kitchen this morning. It's still a little chilly out!

I'd gladly give up my toys to keep my lost loved ones.....(sigh).
47 here and the weatherman said it is going to be sunny. To celebrate old sol, I'll bring apple pie for all!

I don't recall reading it before.

Longfellow really knew how to put thoughts into words, beautiful words. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing better on earth than nature.

One thing shot out at me (How far the unknown transcends the what we know.)

Hey Phyllis...
Apple pie sure sounds good!

I reckon that as we mature, we finally figure what's really important in life!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Hey Momlady...
He certainly put it well, didn't he?

Thanks for the visit this morning!

Hey BBC...
Many people may be reading it for the first time. Good stuff!

Hey Dizzy...
One of the better poets, I think.

Many thanks for coming over today!

Hey Justastick...
Funny how one line can sometimes reach out and grab you, isn't it?
