What Grandma Never Told Me...!

I think I've figured out how the old folks managed to get through so many hard times!
They had some pretty awesome medicines back in the "Old Days"! Take a look...!

Now, I'm not even going to make any cracks about any of these medicines. I think the pictures speak for themselves! Don't you...?

C'mon, my friend, let's get some fresh coffee and sit on the patio a bit. I promise... no additives in the coffee, OK?

Good morning my Special Friend,
I have an old Sears catalogue that some of these fine meds are in. Unbelievably isn't it.
I get to go home for a few hours today so I can get more of my stuff and water the plants. Maybe bring a few back here to get more of a home fell for me. Need to spray the weeds don't want to hear from the HOA.
So lets sit on the patio and have some coffee before I have to run off.

Paregoric. One of my relatives still waxes poetic about paregoric. Thank you for a grin and a chuckle on this fine day, Jim. By the way, we've had significant rain out here and I believe it's just so you can see lots of green and bloom upon your arrival. It is currently sunny and 55 degrees and we plan a dip in the nearby 75 degree spring fed pool later today.

JoJo, I think for a while I received a daily love note from those fine folks at my HOA before I left the city. Don't let that grass get 1/16" too tall!

Good Morning HJ,
To think that all those bad drugs were so prevalent then and there were less addicts than now. Makes you think.
The coffee filter collapsed in the maker this morning and dumped the grounds into the coffee. Slightly tough chewing. Reminded me of way back when I used to use Army coffee as a "dip" instead of tobacco. Still don't "dip" tobacco, ugh! But coffee is OK. Caffeine Rush!
HOAs are bad for your health! Ban HOAs!!

Hey JoJo...
Its hell having to try and live between 2 places, I'll bet! For sure, don't let the poor plants go too long without a drink and a good hug!

I wouldn't worry too much about the HOA...I'll put a curse on them if they mess with ya!

Thanks, Lady, for coming by this morning...

Hey Ginger...
I am so ready to come out! I plan to be there to look things over before long, for sure! If all goes well, I should be there within a week or two to check it out!

I'm hoping that I have a spot to take a dip within an easy reach of my place. If not, I'll make do somehow! The most important thing is to get out of here, if you know what I mean!

Thanks for the visit, my friend!

Hey YOF...
Had to chew my coffee a few times in the morning, when my filters messed up or I forgot to put one in.

Hey, I'm always up for a caffine rush! In fact, I need it right now!

Thanks for coming by, buddy!

Thanks everyone for giving me a place here at Mr Hermits. Lucky I don't have grass it is all those little rock things but the weeds sneak in. We had some good rain this past week so they will really grow.:( but my house plants are what I am worried about and I have 2 fig trees I can't bring over here, can't fit in the car.
Again thanks to all.

HermitJim, you've answered something we here in the Sonoran desert of Arizona have long wondered: why on earth, back in the day, would anyone in their right mind stop here and build a house and settle down? No water, 118 degrees in summer, dust storms and sand, scorpions, rattlers, cactus, no trees...No AIR CONDITIONING!
Now it all makes sense. Thanks!

Could put in a long day with some of those remedies!

Hey JoJo...
You'll always have a place here! So, are you going to completely move to your Dad's? I'd hate to see you lose your fig trees, but sometimes things can't be helped!

Hey Coyote...
Some of this medicine would indeed make it easier to get by in a harsh environment, or at least make it easier to ignore it!

I appreciate the visit today, friend!

Hey Stephanie...
It might make the work a little easier and the conditions more livable...but I can only imagine how the morning after must have been!

Thank you for taking the time to drop in this morning!

It is interesting that people as a whole did just fine when the stuff could be bought at the pharmacy.

The same way that some folks drink too much whiskey and others eat too much cake anything can be abused.

HermitJim said...

Hey TOR...
Does sorta make ya wonder, doesn't it?

Right on the spot about anything can be abused, and many times it will be!

Hey, thanks for coming by today! I appreciate it!

No wonder they called it "the good old days"... :)

Hey Wretha...
Ain't it the truth? I guess whatever it takes to get by, especially back then when they didn't know about the consiquences of some of the stuff!

Thanks for tking out the time to come visit for a while!

And look at the price of those cocaine toothache drops. For 15 cents you get an instantaneous cure and a nice little buzz too. Can you imagine how many toothache complaints there would be now days if those were still available.

Hey Rae...
I'll just bet there woul be a LOT of folks lining up at the pharmacy!

Me, I'll just stick with extra strong coffee!

Hey,thanks for stopping by, my friend!

Reminds me of things like Coca Cola. Originally, it tasted like total crap, but was marketed originally as a hangover cure, containing coca and caffeine. When a newbie pharmacy employee accidentally used carbonated water instead of plain water to make it, it turned out to be really tasty, and the recipe was bought by a big city pharmaceutical company for about $24. The original inventor died broke, while the product was listed in the Sears catalog as a cure for everything from arthritis to impotence. Ah, the good ol' days.

Now, I have to show my ID to get allergy pills that really work.

Hugs,
Ashley
