The Evil Genius can read, anyway - because I bothered to teach him to, and because he sees his mom and Gramlin reading and loving it, and he has discovered that words build worlds.
I'm also teaching him that he won't be handed anything - he'll have to want it and work for it, and sometimes he won't get it anyway, that life isn't always fair...but life goes on.
He's learning that we are responsible for our own actions, and we must stand and face the consequences of those actions - even if one CAN run from the consequences, one SHOULD NOT.
He's learning that freedom isn't free, easy, or comfortable, but it's necessary for the human spirit to thrive.
He's discovering that every moment of every day is one that can teach us something, if we're open to the learning.
But then...he's learning these things at home, because his mother doesn't trust the system currently in place to indoctrinate...er...educate our children. She doesn't trust the system that teaches entitlement, excuses, apathy, and herd mentality and strives to eradicate individualism, free thought, questioning, curiosity, and self-expression. She doesn't want him ground down into a dull, gray, sheeple.
And people think I'M crazy. Oh, wait...
Want some fresh bread with butter, honey, and cinnamon with your coffee, sir?
Hey K... Could be that because of mother teaching him at home, he will have a better chance of not only doing well in the "real world" but will be better fortified to handle the curves that life throws our way once in a while.

I think I've gained about 2 pounds just reading the description of the bread offering this morning! Bring it on...!
I am proud to say that my daughter can read well beyond her grade level. B's will be starting 9th grade here in a couple of weeks and she reads at a college level. Matter of fact all her classes are advanced :D I don't know how that happened, HaHa!
I started reading to her everyday before she was born and continued to do so after she was born. When she started Kindergarten she was already reading at a high level and knew math & how to write. The teacher was impressed.
I am proud of her, she has had a 4.0 GPA throughout school so far and has been on the high honor roll every year.
Sorry, enough bragging on my part.

Hey Felinae... I think it's a good thing to read to our children. It makes them realize there is another whole set of adventures awaiting them in books.
My folks taught us the love of reading when we were kids, and I'm thankful everyday because of it!
