Gotta Love Ol' Ben Franklin...!

You know, Ol' Ben Franklin was a pretty smart guy!

Not only because of all the things we normally attribute to him, but for a number of other things we may not have heard of! Since his birthday is coming up on the 17TH, I thought we would take a slightly different look at the old boy!

Benjamin Franklin, born on January 17, 1706, not only was a world-renowned statesman, inventor, and scientist, but also was fascinated by agriculture.

To demonstrate the value of gypsum as fertilizer, he applied it to a field in a pattern that spelled out, “This land has been plastered.” Sure enough, clover in the fertilized area exhibited more vigorous growth. Pretty impressive, huh?

I want to share just a few of my favorite quotes from the MAN as well, for many of them are just as true today as they ever were!

A house is not a home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as the body.
Benjamin Franklin

Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.
Benjamin Franklin

Be slow in choosing a friend, slower in changing.
Benjamin Franklin

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.
Benjamin Franklin

Having been poor is no shame, but being ashamed of it, is.
Benjamin Franklin

He that lives upon hope will die fasting.
Benjamin Franklin

He that would live in peace and at ease must not speak all he knows or all he sees.
Benjamin Franklin

Rather go to bed with out dinner than to rise in debt.
Benjamin Franklin

Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God.
Benjamin Franklin

The U. S. Constitution doesn't guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself.
Benjamin Franklin

Where liberty is, there is my country.
Benjamin Franklin

You know, Ben Franklin, along with many of our other forefathers, were very impressive fellows. They did right by us...so maybe we should work more to do right by them and their ideals. OK? OK!

Now, my friends, let's get some fresh coffee and sit out on the patio for a bit.

I have often thought that Franklin, and Jefferson also, would just be aghast at many thing today and believe we are all idiots.

Yes, yes, some wise observations. I just wish he hadn't come up with the idea of changing the time twice a year.

Good Morning My Special One, Thank you for the lesson and reminders of all the great quotes from Mr Franklin.
Coffee on the patio sounds wonderful.
Taking off next week for a week it is time to go. No changing plans for anyone. Time to blow off the stink of town. 8)

Hey China...
Maybe we could learn something from the old guys, ya reckon?

Thanks so much for coming by today!

Hey ER...
You're probably right bout that! I'm sure that where we are at is NOT what they envisioned, that's for sure!

Sometimes I think that we have really made a mess of things...

Hey, I appreciate you coming by today!

Hey Momlady...
You have to wonder just what prompted him to come up with that idea in the first place!

I have to agree with you on this one...I could do without it!

Thanks for dropping by today, friend!

Hey JoJo...
glad you are getting a chance to get out of town for a bit. The fresh air will probably do you good!

Certainly wish I was going along...but it looks like I'm stuck here for a while!

Enjoy the country side for me, OK?

Thanks, sweetie, for dropping in today!

Good quotes... I suppose he was one of the first world wide celebrities... and he did a lot of good. Our world wide folks today could learn a bit....(seems many did take him up on skirt chasing)... :-)

Hey SC...
Right on about his love of the ladies! He enjoyed the chase, for sure!

I think that maybe politicians even then thought of this as acceptable behavior...who knows?

Hey, I appreciate you coming by today!

The more I find out about BF the more I like him. I had to comment on this post because I agree with you 100% on those like BF. They were the example of what a real American was. Now I'm not talkin about Native American, thats a different story. But fact remains that this country was and invention and experiment of what can happen when people from all over the world recreate themselves. Too bad we had to kill off the majority of the indiginous peoples, and bring in slaves to do this. But every country has its nasty little episodes in its growing up.

Good quotes, Mister Hermit, sir. I've often enjoyed reading the man's words.

I think the time thing was a joke. He was having us on. I bet he's still laughing.

Hey Felinae...
Still a little cloudy here, but as long as it isn't cold and raining...I can get by!

Franklin was indeed an interesting man...and I like most of his quotes even today!

Thanks for coming by, my California Cutie!

Hey OGT...
Your visits are always welcome, buddy!

What I find the most interesting thing about guys like Franklin and Jefferson...is that they all warned about the possibility of government getting out of control! How's that for telling the future?

Thanks for coming by today, buddy!

Hey K...
I reckon he had a good laugh at us all on that one! Takes a slightly twisted mind to even come up with the concept!

Hope all is going good at your house! Thanks for the visit!

You said it. I really like the one about pursuit of happiness. It is not a governmental entitlement ...yet. Wonder how many tarp bills they could get for that one?

Time for ice tea now.

Ol' Ben is my favorite.

Hey Christer...
I'm certainly glad you liked the quotes, my friend...and glad you could come by today!

Hey Kris...
You know, I had never really heard that one before until I started doing a little research on Ben!

You know how the government is...if there is a way, they'll find it!

Thanks for the visit today!

Hey Mayberry...
You do just have to love the guy! Chased the ladies right up until the very end...and said exactly what he wanted to say!

Our kind of man, for sure!

Thanks, guy, for the visit!

Thank you for today's post. I LOVE quotes, and I especially love quotes from our founders. Such wisdom!

HermitJim said...

Hey Gen...
The quotes from our founders are always worth a re-visit from time to time.We have a tendency to forget just how wise they were...especially since a lot of what they said is still of import today!

I appreciate the kind words and the visit today...
