A Little Family History...!
I was looking at some family history documents with my Mother yesterday...and found out some interesting facts!
Guess that farming and homesteading has been in my family's blood for a long time! Even though few of us live on a farm now, there is a long history of small farmers and land owners that go way back!
I have some paper work here showing that in 1906, one of my relatives...one John M. Emerson, purchased approximately 107 acres in Williamson County, Texas for the sum of $5218.30! That's right...$5218.30!
Now, by today's figuring that's not too bad! However, in 1906 that was a big pile of money...
For those of you that don't know where Williamson county is...it's just outside of Austin, Texas.You may have heard of Austin before.
One can only imagine what that land would be worth today!
Now, my friends, let's get some fresh coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit.Tomorrow, I'll tell you about part of my family that was in the Regulators...way back when!

I´ve been checking out my family history abot two hundred years back, on my mothers side. It seemes most men were sailors, but some of the women had been maids on farms before getting married. So it´s perhaps not so strange that I love the ocean more than most things, but moved out to the countryside long away from the ocean :-)

Good Morning My Special One, I love hearing about family history. We started doing a family tree on dad's side but it was like pulling teeth to get any info. I can't wait to read your blog tomorrow.

I have done a lot of research on my mother's side. I have 5 generations in Kentucky. They were all farmers, ranchers, and my great great grandfather was a chicken farmer.

Thanks for bringing up family history. I think it is very important for people to know where they came from.
If you don't know where you've been, how can you know where you're going?
When you research you family's lineage, don't limit yourself to English language sources only. When I was looking into the late Meiji period family history, I had to resort to a French work written in the late 1800's to clear up some family linkages.
