Another Gift From Mother Nature...!

If we could only learn some of the lessons nature offers to teach us, our lives would be greatly improved.

Here is another example of what I'm talking about.

Miracle fruit berry turning sour to sweet

It's the red, almond-shaped fruit that will trick your tongue.

"My favorite food was the cherry tomatoes because they just taste like candy," Daniel Didoc, a Wofford College student, said.

He and a group of other students participated in a lecture and eating experience with what's called the miracle fruit berry at the campus library in Spartanburg.

"Only food that you'd expect to be very sour taste very, very sweet," Didoc said.

Organizers set-up tables with sauerkraut, sour cream, lemons, limes, peppers and pickles.

"Pickles taste like pickles, but not as much," he said.

Researchers said the berry comes from W. Africa and when you eat it, a protein reacts with your taste buds and induces sweetness when it comes in contact with acid.

"Never thought that eating a fruit could actually change your perception," Michael Roulhac, another student said.

"I mean it's life changing," he said.

But researchers said the real beauty behind the berry is what it may be able to do for cancer patients.

"This berry could be used to help someone taking chemo treatments taste better for foods, to taste better for them," Oakley Coburn, the Library Dean said.

He organizes cultural events at the library and helped organize the sweet miracle berry experience. He said researchers want to know if it can also be used as a natural sweetener for diabetics.

"Where they really want sweetness, but can't have sugar," he said.

And for the students, the experience was a sweet one.

Slowly but surely we are rediscovering what the Shaman and witch doctors have known for many, many years. They were probably more in touch with the natural wonders of this old world than our so called "doctors" are today. Just maybe we should try and learn from them! Again...!

Coffee inside this morning. The wind is a tad too chilly for the patio.

So very true. My example is how docs typically treat osteoarthritis.....celebrex, just a pain killerB. But there are all kinds of herbs, with natural anti-inflammatory effects, which actually slow down the negative effects. You have to go somewhere else other than the docs to find out about that. I avoid docs as much as I can.

My doctor is trying to keep me away from modern drugs. It kind of surprised me when I first started going to him. My cholesterol was a little high & he told me to start taking fish oil to lower it. I have yet to get a prescription from him. I asked him if he could give me something to help me quit smoking & he just said its better to just quit than taking pills to help. He was on vacation one time & I had to go to his replacement while he was away. This doctor told me I needed to quit smoking & wrote me a script for Chantix. After reading the side effects I figured I was better off smoking.

OK, I am interested. What is the name of the berry? Didn't see it named anywhere in the article.

Hey Anon 3:23...
I'm all in favor of natural medicines when available. That's why I think that the old Shaman knew what they were talking about!

I had never heard of this berry until I read this article.

Hey, I sure do appreciate you coming by today!

Hey Sixbears...
You can bet that a lot of folks would like to have some of these!

Thanks for letting me know how they work!

Thank you for coming over today, my friend!

Hey JoJo...
No, sweetie, they are talking about the "miracle berry" itself. The tomatoes were just part of the taste test!

If you Google Miracle berry Fruit you will see some pictures of it!

Sorry you had to drink instant coffee this morning!

Thanks for dropping in today, sweetie!

Hey Jim...
A lot of docs are turning to more natural remedies for certain things than ever before! I think that's a good thing!

I did a post last year about the Chantix side effects and decided I didn't want to ever take them!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Dizzy...
The name they go by is actually "Miracle Berry Fruit" and you can even find them for sale on Amazon. Just Google "miracle berry fruit" and you'll see some pictures of them!

Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!

Nature is truly fantastic! I've never heard of this before and just imagine what it could do to people that eats a lot of candy. Suddenly the candy industry would get problems :-) :-) :-)

Out here on the west coast the alder tree is very beneficial, for those that take advantage of it.
