Nearly As Important As Food...!

No one can make it completely alone. No one...!

If we could, I would be the first to tell you, and the first to try! After all, I chose the name "HermitJim".

We all know the essentials needed for, water, and shelter! These are no-brainers. However, while taking care of our physical needs, let's not forget the needs of our inner self. The needs of our inner comforts can be just as important as the other to survival.

One of the most under-rated tools we can have is something we may not give much thought to...our friends! Now don't get me wrong...I'm not saying that family and faith and knowledge and everything else is not important! I'm just saying that without some friends to help balance us out, we are not totally complete!

After all, friends can serve as family, can firm up our faith, and can add to our knowledge! How important is that? How irreplaceable?

I could never say how important friends can be, I just don't have the talent with words. So, to prove my point, I've collected a few very good quotes pertaining to friends and friendship. They say it much better than I can...

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
Albert Schweitzer

I have friends in overalls whose friendship I would not swap for the favor of the kings of the world.
Thomas A. Edison

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.
C. S. Lewis

I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar.
Robert Brault

Mighty proud I am that I am able to have a spare bed for my friends.
Samuel Pepys

Silences make the real conversations between friends. Not the saying but the never needing to say is what counts.
Margaret Lee Runbeck

The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship.
William Blake

So when I call you my friend, please know that I do so with the belief that you are indeed my friends, and I do not use that term lightly! Also know that I fully appreciate your friendship and hope to always be worthy of it!

Now, how about we get some coffee and sit out on the patio for a while...OK, my friends?

Nicely said, Mister Hermit, sir.

I have often said that I have few true friends...but I cherish the ones I have beyond counting.

I call them my web - the ones who, when I seek to soar, are ready to catch me if I falter, fail, fall, and set me on my feet again. They will never let me or mine hunger or thirst.

And I will do the same for them.

When a friend calls, I come. It's that simple. You call...I answer.

It is astonishing, a wonder, that this Blue Nowhere, this electronic medium, has provided another kind of web, has drawn together people from so many places, so many walks of life, and given us a place to grow friendships in peculiar (but rich) soil.

How about some blueberry muffins with that coffee...friend?

Hi Uncle Hermit~

I do not use the term friend lightly either. Like you, when I say it, I mean it.

I like to count you among not just my friends, but I consider you to be one of my Dear Friends.

This quote that you listed is one of my favorites:
“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art...It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.”
C.S. Lewis

Now my friend, I will gladly join you for coffee.

Hi Jim,

Words will often underestimate how special and important people are in our lives and we are often too wrapped up in ourselves to stop and take notice.

Even when you think you are doing it alone your friends always stand up and show you that you are not.

Friends are family in my heart and are forever.

You are not only worthy but deserving to be included in my family of friends and thank the universe for allowing me the privilige of being one of yours.

Keep smiling

Hey K...
The garden of our lives can be so enriched with the blossoms of friendship.

I'll take those muffins and be glad to get them, thanks!

Thank you for coming by today, Lady! It's always a pleasure...

Hey Felinae...
I'll have to admit, my life is certainly made more pleasant, knowing that I have some friendships that will probably last longer than any I had off the web.

I'm honored to be in your circle of friends, Felinae...and I thank you for joining us for coffee this morning!

Hi Jim,
Wonderful post. My favorite quote is the C.S. Lewis statement. So so true.

Enjoy your coffee.

You selected some really thought provoking quotes. And I believe like you that once the hand of friendship is offered it should not be taken lightly. Behind that hand someone is offering a part of themself to share.

Too many people take friendship lightly - easy come, easy go. I take it seriously and for that reason I don't call many people my friends. You are among the select few that I call friend. I would share time with you anytime. You are a compassionate caring soul and I appreciate that.

Have a wonderful day my friend.

You are a real gem, Jim!! I wish there were more like you...
Have a grand day, my friend!

Good morning my Special Friend,
and that doesn't come lightly said either. I think you know that. Your post was beautiful this morning. To make friends that are more like part of your family is a very special friend indeed.
So lets sit out on the patio and drink to our friends. coffee that is.

Hey Kris...
Glad you could drop by today. The quote from C.S. Lewis is a favorite of many folks. It's amazing how many great quotes came from folks long gone.

Thank you for coming by today...

Hey Rae...
Thank you so much for the kind words and the chance to be one of your fairly "new" friends! That means a lot to me...!

I appreciate the visit this morning, Rae!

Hey Cath...
That particular quote is one of my favorite ones as well! I guess that great minds DO think alike...!

Your visit today is greatly appreciated, Cath!

Hey JoJo...
How really nice to see you this morning! My day just isn't complete until I get a visit from you! Makes everything all better, ya know?

Glad you came by this morning...!

Oddly, that's like the 3rd quote I've read in a week where Thomas Edison referenced overalls. How strange.

At any rate, this post is great coffee. I'm not even sure exactly what I mean by that, but let me assure you that it's extremely complimentary.

Sorry I'm late. Had to go to go to
Kroeger's for a few items.

HermitJim said...

Hey Ranger...
I get the impression that Edison looked at folks wearing overalls as very common folk. That is OK with me...cause I figure that God must have loved the common man, because he made so many of us!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Vlad...
Man, that email that you sent about Kroger's was just too funny! I'm still grinning...!

Thanks for making my day a bit better by sharing it!

Good afternoon Mr. Jim;

I hope one day to meet you in person. I consider you a very good friend. I know my back is safe with you watching it.

The common man has done the greatest feats.

See Ya

Hey Tony...
That goes double for me, my man! I appreciate having you and those like you on my side of any conflict...makes me feel a lot more secure!

Thanks, buddy, for coming by!

I'll drink to that my friend!

Hey Busted...
I appreciate you dropping by and taking the time for a visit!

Couldn't agree more hermit, in fact I would go as far to say friends are JUST as important as food. Mankind is a social creature, take the ability for him to have contact with others away from him and all sorts of psych conditions may prey upon him.

HermitJim said...

Hey Molly...
Couldbe why the hermits and others that live alone for long amounts of time are considered to be a little strange by others. They act that way because they have no others there to add the balance in their lives!

Thanks for the visit today!
