By Golly, It's Almost July...!

One thing I've noticed as I've become older...time flies at an alarming rate of speed!

I'm still trying to figure out just where the first 6 months of this year went, and it's already July! What happened to the last 10 or so years?

Anyway, I thought I would borrow some facts about the month of July from the Almanac! They seem to be able to keep up with all this stuff a lot better than I can, ya know?

July, the Seventh Month

Thursday is the first day of July. Julius Caesar named July after himself when he reworked the old Roman calendar. (Ironically, the change went into effect in 44 B.C., the year Caesar was assassinated.)

Although Earth is at its farthest point from the Sun this month, the sunshine comes with enough power to make July the warmest month in most of the continent.

Sweet corn—knee-high by the 4th of July, with luck—thrives now, and an attentive gardener literally can hear it growing (just listen for a creaking sound).

July is for sailboats and lemonade, thunderstorms and ripe peaches, haying and fireworks. Traditionalists eat eggs on St. Swithin’s Day (the 15th) and oysters on St. James’s Day (the 26th). The rest of us fire up our grills or head for the clam shack.

See what I mean? I couldn't remember all this information! Heck, I can barely remember how to tie my shoes!

Maybe if we get some fresh coffee or iced tea and sit out on the patio...my memory will get better! Now, which way was the patio again...?

Thanks for the info...and of course, once July 4 arrives, it seems to be downhill. Funny how short the seasons and celebrations seem to get, the older (whoops - more mature) we get. Make that a double coffee for me today. Happy July!

Hey Ken...
Now that's something I could get my mouth around! Home made peach cobbler!

Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

Thanks for coming by today, buddy!

Hey Beatrice...
Right you are about time getting away from us!

Mature as we are, it's really moving fast, that's for sure!

Double coffee coming up!

Thanks for the visit today!

Good Morning My Special One
Yes it is going way to fast, for me too. My BBQ grill is ready and I have fired it up a few time. The fourth will be a great day here with all the Elk and VFW folks.
Thanks for the reminder of the month from Almanac.

Hey JoJo...
Glad to hear that you are getting all ready for a big week-end.

The pictures on your blog are really nice! Gonna have to get up there and see the area one of these days!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by!

You see... If you wore sandals, like me, or some other type of non-tie shoe, you wouldn't have to remember how to tie them. Then, you could make room for some monthly trivia! :-D

Hugs,
Ashley

I suppose I will have a quiet 4th what with the kids out of town. Several families will probably drop by to park in my drive to watch parade and fire works, though.
When the aliens see all the smoke and smell all the aromas from grills, do they come closer to investigate or try to grab an invite to dinner or do they already know what's going on?
Love you.

Hey Mechanic...
fresh corn sure sounds good to me! Are you putting some on the grill? Might be pretty tasty!

Things do appear to be looking up a bit in the news...like the hurricane not hitting around the Houston area!

Hey, my friend, I do appreciate the visit today!

Hey Ashley...
Nope, no sandals for me! I don't do sandals or shorts in public!

Guess I'll have to stick to the tie kind or maybe go back to velcro closings!

Thanks for the visit!

Hey Sis...
I think that they must come and stay for a while...I know I have several visiting the store where I get my groceries!

Come to think of it, I believe there may be a couple living on this street!

Thanks for coming by today, Sis!

The Fourth of July is my youngest son's birthday (Jake died in '99) so I always celebrate... no matter where I am.
When he was young, he always thought the whole country threw a big birthday party just for him, and used to ask total strangers (we had a fireworks booth) for presents!

Coffee and some company sounds darn good this morning. :)

Hey Tatersmama...
I know it must be a rough time for you, but think of it as a celebration of his life!

Even though he's gone, the country is still throwing him a party!

Take care, my friend, and thanks for coming by!

Hmmm, the patio... I seem to remember we had one. Seems like just the other day. Great reading today, I had to catch up some.
