Cooking Off Alcohol...!

I guess nearly everyone, including me, thought that cooking a food containing alcohol removes most of it.

Turns out this is not as true as I believed! Doesn't bother me, but if someone in your family is a tee-totaler it might be a problem for them. Of course, you don't have to tell them about this, unless you just want to! In fact, keeping this a secret until after the meal might be fun!

Maybe this chart will be of some use in seeing how much burns off. I got this from the guys over at Listverse!

Personally, I don't mind a little alcohol in my food...or with my food or after my food! I'm good with it any which way!

Coffee in the kitchen this morning. It might rain, and my cookies might get wet! Wait, that doesn't sound quite right, does it?

Wow! Thanks, Uncle Hermit,
like you, I thought it cooked off.

Guess I should've listened to my daughter, when she was younger she always used to tell me it didn't cook off. Her words "I don't think it goes away because the sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving taste funny." LOL Now I make her yams separate without alcohol or fruit, just straight candied yams.

Have a great day,
Hugs~Felinae~

So THAT'S why our loud-mouthed former pastor who always bragged that alcohol had never touched his lips LOVED my wife's chicken cooked in wine! (No, we never told him the ingredients! ;-)....)

I have a great recipe for Margarita pie. And it's a no-cook pie.

Bubba -

I also thought most of it cooked away, but since I add so much rum glaze to my Rum Cake, who could really tell what had been cooked in or was added later? Hmmm, makes my mouth water for a Bourbon Pecan Pie....soon, maybe!

Big hugs - and no, she did not tell me until I asked!

I learned something new today. I thought the alcohol cooked off. Wait until I tell my husband he is wrong (he's the one telling me it burned off). that's why my mother's rum cookies always tasted so good!!!! Looks like rain here too so coffee inside sounds good.

I hate to put a damper on the fun about keeping it a secret. Recovering alcoholics can be affected by the least bit of alcohol in cooking. I truley did not know that it didn't all cook off either. So if you have someone at your table who is recovering no matter who long it has been you should let them know.

haha your cookies shouldn't get wet.

We sure could use some rain up this way but it sure doesn't look like rain here. Maybe later in the day. You know, when I first moved to the Houston area, it rained every afternoon in the Summer time. What happened?

Hey Sis...
I bet I gained about 10 pounds looking at all these recipes! Sure makes me hungry!

I didn't figure she would share it voluntarily!

Thanks for coming over this morning!

Hey Linda...
Bake the hubby a big bunch of those cookies, then tell him!

Makes the news a little easier to take!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Sixbears...
Now that's another one that sounds pretty good!

Maybe we should have a bake off! I'll be the judge, of course!

Thanks, my friend, for coming for a visit!

Hey JoJo...
No matter what, gotta keep those cookies dry!

Good advice on being careful about the past hard drinkers being kept in the dark!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming over today!

Hey Dizzy...
I don't have a clue what's going on with our weather lately!

I just have a feeling we are in for a really bad Winter! Sure hope I'm wrong!
