Unusual Heirloom Veggies...!

I know everyone has heard of Heirloom vegetables, but I found a list of some that may just be new to you!

Some of these things are almost way too pretty to eat! I'm only going to post about one of the prettiest, but I have the link to the others just in case you want to check them out! I wouldn't mind getting a few seeds from these beauties myself!

If you read the article, it may just surprise you! Anyway, check this winner out, OK?

 Violetta Italia Cauliflower

Some other heirloom varieties: Romanesco cauliflower, Rosalind.

These plants sport stunning, large, bright purple cauliflowers. They are delicious raw with a dip, as well as cooked or steamed. Cauliflowers are high in dietary fibre, foliate and vitamin C, but this purple variety also boasts with high levels of anthocyanin, which can slow blood clotting and prevent heart disease.

Why don't you go over to Listverse and check out the others? I think it will be well worth your time, believe me! After all, would I lie to ya?
Coffee on the patio this morning. It's nice and cool here, at least for this time of year!

How lovely that would be growing in my garden. Thank you for the info.

That is a new one on me. Wouldn't they add a lot of color to a salad?

I went to that link and saw veggies that I never saw before!!! I would like to taste some of them. My Aunt in the PA nursing home likes the color purple. Maybe I should send her a picture of these.

Truly eye candy, H.J. - and probably very tasty, too. We have tasted an orange variety and a green one, too, but never the purple type. You always find something fascinating to share with us - thanks!

I'm dying to try things like that and the pretty yellow-orange variety. There is also a broccoli that has purplish heads. If we ever get those coverable raised beds built...

Hey Momlady...
It would be good for putting some color in the garden, wouldn't it?

Wonder if the deer would leave it alone?

Thanks for the visit today!

Hey Sixbears...
It would make for a festive salad, I think!

Many thanks for dropping by today!

Hey Dizzy...
Some of these might look good on your homemade cards!

Might just taste good as well!

Thanks, buddy, for the visit!

Hey JoJo...
I hate it when my Internet connection goes out! That's why I bought a portable "Hotspot"!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!

Hey 2 Tramps...
It does seem to fill the bill as eye candy!

Looks good enough to eat, even in the picture!

Thanks for coming by this morning!

Hey Syrbal...
I can just imagine how colorful a garden would be with a few things like this growing!

The world is so full of strange and wondrous things!

Many thanks for coming over today!

Hello Hermit!
I didn't fall off the face of the earth, really and I have been keeping an eye on your blog, as often as time allows :o)

That is to beautiful to eat, I wonder does it change color when steamed? We grow purple beans and they turn green when cooked or steamed, but sure are beautiful in a salad raw. Funny how these heirloom varities were almost lost for ever, sure glad to see them making a comeback, much to the shegrin(sp?) of Monsanto I'm sure*wink* Just wanted to say hey and let you know we're still around, it's just been one of those, " Life Happened" Summers, LOL!!!! Have a great weekend
Blessings, Kelle
