"I Fought For That Flag...!"

In this day and age, we have some really sick individuals running around free!

Why would anyone want to destroy this man's flag? Why pick on an 85 year old war veteran? Worthless, sick, twisted individuals need no reason! They follow no code of decency! They have no conscience!

As Shakespeare once said, "a pox be upon them!"

WWII Veteran Vows to Keep Flying American Flag After Vandal Torches It

Published August 01, 2011

NEW YORK -- An 85-year-old veteran in New York City who says he still has traumatic dreams about World War II is extremely upset over the torching of his American flag.

Harold Bernstein says his neighbors on Staten Island first noticed the recent vandalism, which apparently occurred in the middle of the night.

Bernstein tells the Staten Island Advance that other flags on his block were untouched. He wonders: "Why did they pick on me?"

He said if he'd encountered the culprit, he would have "strung them up there along with the flag."

He vows to keep displaying it, even though it's scorched.

Says the former Marine: "I fought for that flag."

Thanks to Fox news for this report! Guess that some of the worthless folks have relatives up north!

We need to find a new source of rope, I'm thinking! My supply is going to run out real soon, know what I mean?

Let's get some fresh coffee and sit out on the patio for a bit! We can all practice our noose tying!

There's something seriously wrong with people who don't respect our elderly citizens. Then add the desecration of our flag and it makes me want to join you in the noose party!

The world is growing more full of perverts of every description. This is just one more example.

Hi Jim: Not a lot of respect for the property of others going on these days. But I'd guess it was probably kids did the deed. My recollection of what we were able to talk ourselves into doing when a bunch of us got to daring one another was that we overstepped all manner of boundaries without giving it much thought.

If someone had hanged me at that age I'd have come out the other end still owing another getting hanged or two.

Here's hoping whomever did it gets themselves straightened out before then have to be hanged repeatedly to balance the scale.

Hope you have a great one. So far I haven't noticed coffee prices going up as much as everything else, so I'm still drinking it.

That is really sad! What is up with people today? Picking on our Veterans is a "hanging" offense in my book.

Back in the old days, there was neither recognized syndrom nor treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrom so may powers that be help ease his not so good dreams. He was probably just a kid when he began serving. Note his name...that couldn't have always been easy for him back then, either. I hope the ones responsible come to feel genuine remorse. I suppose I am wishing for the stars, eh? I don't think it is too late to thank him for his service to us all.
Love you. Yes, planning to see you later this month. Looking forward to it. Been too long!

Who would do such a thing? Why the same people who elected the people who have got this country into such a mess!!!

Hey Sel...
Just when you think that folks have slipped as far as they can, another example like this pops up!

There's a lot of sick people running around out there! I'm thinking many it's time to cull the herd!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Gorges...
It's a shame that these types will never feel any remorse!

Too bad we can't group all the perverts together and let them feed off one another!

Thanks for coming over this morning!

Hey China...
We may have to start buying in bulk! Either that, or start making our own!

I appreciate you dropping by today!

Hey Jules...
Let's just hope the coffee prices stay at a reasonable level, at least for a while!

Last thing I need is to deal with higher coffee prices!

I have a feeling that many of us still owe for past deeds, but do we ever really balance the scales?

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

Hey Linda...
I couldn't agree with you more!

At a time of his life when he deserves some peace, to be victimized by this type of vandal!

Just no shame anymore!

Thanks for the visit today!

Hey Sis...
It's just a crying shame that the elderly have to be hounded by people such as this!

Glad you are planning a trip down here. A good visit will be nice!

Thanks for coming over today!

Hey DD...
Sad to say but you're probably right!

Certainly headed in the wrong direction!

Many thanks for coming over today, my friend!

Jim: Apologies in advance for this, but since I posted something earlier I hope you'll forgive me adding something.

Linda M and BigBadSis: I suppose every vet has different views on this and mine, I hold strongly.

I don't want anyone thanking me for the time I spent in the military. I joined because I thought this country was going to war with the USSR within a couple of months. Thank goodness it didn't, but the time I spent serving in the US and in Asia [Korea mainly] was a sufficient learning growth experience to have paid for itself many times over. But I don't hold any illusions by hindsight that anything I did, that anything anyone else did serving in the military after WWII had anything much to do with protecting the 'freedom' of US citizens. The citizenry over the past 50 years has made damned sure whatever freedoms it had got sprinkled into the dust along the route we took getting where we are today.

And I sure as hell don't want anyone hanged for 'picking on me'. I'll gore my own oxen if some need goring.

But, of course, I didn't serve in a war. The only time I ever got shot at was by a bunch of scared GIs on guard duty burning up ammo at one another when we briefly forgot we weren't at war. I like to hope other vets aren't loving all the cloying thanks that seems so pervasive out there nowadays, too. There's something about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I suspect I'm not the only one.

As another old veteran that fought for this country I hope they find the person and give 'em a royal butt kicking.
