Grooved Spheres For Monday Mysteries...!

I may have covered these spheres before, but if I did they are still worth another look. At least I think they are!

I haven't been able to find out anymore information on them that might have helped to explain what they were intended for and who made them. I'd really like to know, so if you stumble across any additional info on them, please share it with me...OK?

The Grooved Spheres

Over the last few decades, miners in South Africa have been digging up mysterious metal spheres. Origin unknown, these spheres measure approximately an inch or so in diameter, and some are etched with three parallel grooves running around the equator. Two types of spheres have been found: one is composed of a solid bluish metal with flecks of white; the other is hollowed out and filled with a spongy white substance. The kicker is that the rock in which they where found is Precambrian – and dated to 2.8 billion years old! Who made them and for what purpose is unknown.

You know, this ol' world is chock full of things we don't understand. In fact, in some cases we never even try to! WHY...well,that's a real mystery in and of itself, isn't it?

Coffee in the kitchen this morning. Cold and rainy outside this morning!

They sure are weird. Just maybe we aren't supposed to know everything - I like a little mystery now and then. Very cold here this AM, 8 degrees with a -1 wind chill. Yesterday we had 2 inches of snow. In all my years on this planet I don't remember it being this cold this early. Brrrrrrrrr! I'll bring some hot cinnamon rolls to go with the hot coffee.

This is the best I could come up with, Mamahen:

It gives another point of view on how they were formed. Cinnamon rolls
are perfect for today, Linda! (save two of 'em!)

Have you ever wondered if all this "pre-Cambrian"-type terminology is just a smoke-screen so scientists won't have to admit that they don't know diddle-squat?
