Taking Things A Little Too Literally...!

Guess we are going to have to be more careful about what we call our pets!

Either that, or we need to sit down with them and explain just what we mean by the name we give them. We don't want them to follow the example of this "hunting dog" in California, right?

Maybe it would be a good thing to double check and make sure that we are feeding them food that they like and want...just in case!

Man wounded with No. 2 shot

LOS BANOS, Calif. — One California hunting dog apparently takes the term a bit too literally.

Authorities say a central California hunter was wounded when his own dog accidentally sent ammunition into his back.

The 53-year-old man was treated at Los Banos Memorial Hospital and released after a few hours.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department says the man and a partner had been hunting near Highway 152 in the Los Banos area Saturday. The man set down his shotgun to retrieve some duck decoys and his female Labrador retriever stepped on it, causing the safety to disengage and the gun to fire, sending shot into the hunter's upper back.

The names of the man and dog have not been released.

Of course, you can't blame the dog. You have to remember that the dog was all excited and was not well versed in the proper way to handle and care for loaded firearms when hunting!

Even though this story is rather humorous...there could have been a very different ending to it! The rule about firearms is just the same now as it has always been! What is that main rule...?

TREAT EACH WEAPON AS THOUGH IT WERE LOADED ! All hunters worth their salt know this! All gun owners know this! Everyone, and I mean everyone, that handles guns of ANY kind should know and practice this!

Suppose that the hunter had a child with him and the child was in the line of fire? Can you imagine the tragedy that could have ensued from this lack of proper care of a loaded weapon?

It's up to the adults to exercise the proper care as children, just like the dog, don't realize what could happen!

Now, let's get a fresh cup of coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit! Oh, and don't leave your guns where the cats can get to them, OK?

Good Morning My Special One, while yes it is funny in a way, one must take all care with loaded weapons. Your so right this could have been much worse.
Coffee in the kitchen sounds great. Sure are having a true winter here. Calls for lots of nice hot coffee.

Hey JoJo...

I sure am ready for Spring!

Hey, Sweetie...thanks for coming by!

Hey Gen...
Glad you like it...and I appreciate you coming by today!

Hey Rae...
Many thanks, my friend! Really just common sense, but sometimes we don't use that as much as we should!

Thanks for the visit today!

Only in California. Wonder what he did to the dog to make him that mad?

Funny, but with any firearm there is danger, and care is required.

See Ya

Hey Tony...
Guess the man will have to start wearing a bullet proof vest to walk his dog...or let his dog walk him!

You just have to think that this guy is one of those that say "nothing like that could ever happen to me!"

Smart guy or dumb man...either way, the guy is lucky!

Thanks for coming by, buddy!

Jim, hunters are a special breed..."Can't nuttin go wrong out here", "dogs don't shoot guns", "I know what I'm do'n".

Remind me the time my wife went dove hunt'n with me. We were trump'n through the bush and "BOOOM"...16 guage went off right behind me. Seems wifes shotgun was tangled in a bush and just went off. Yep, ya gotta think. By the way...she missed.

Hey Billy Bob...
Not sure I would want a woman behind me with a gun in hand...especially if I was married to her!

I guess there is nothing to worry about...unless the gun "accidently" goes off multiple times, ya know?

Having been married a few times...I never felt quite comfortable with being worth more dead than alive...!

Rather be single with two cats...they keep me around cause they can't open the cat food!

Thanks for the visit!

Hi Uncle Hermit,

This happened about 1 1/2 hours down the road from where I am.

It was on the local news, they said the man had just recently been talking to his children about proper gun safety. Hmm...I'm thinking somebody needs to follow his own advice.

Have a good day!

Hey Felinae...
Guess this is one of those "Do as I say, not as I do " moments! You have to bt the kids and the guys friends are NOT going to let him live this one down for quite a while!

Wonder if he will still take his dog hunting with him?

Hey, thanks for coming by today, my friend!

Dog was not to blame in this story, the dumb A hunter was. I was driving all my hunters out to their deer stands one morning with them in the back seat,of the ole hunting jeep of course it was a bumpy ride, KABOOM!!! guy in the back seat had not unloaded his 30-30 and put a hole in the roof!. made him walk back to camp. Stoopid people and guns don't mix.

Hey Ben...
That's a fact, my friend! One reason I don't want anyone with a loaded gun sitting behind me!

Some folks just shouldn't be trusted with a gun...period!

Take care...and stay warm, buddy!

Thanks for the visit!

I couldn´t help but laughing, but we had a similar accident over here with not such a good ending.

Sorry I haven´t been here for a while. Mostly I´ve been shovelling snow. We now have around half a yard of snow in average. Roofs have fallin in to houses and some buildings has collapsed too.

It seemes that people building and desining houses have forgotten that we quite often gets a lot of snow here :-) :-)

Thanfully only lighter injuries has happened, exept for a horse in a riding school that got badly injured.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hey Christer...
That sounds like a lot of snow to me! I can only imagine what a mess it is going to be when it starts to melt...and what a pain it is to try and shovel through all that stuff!

Glad that there are not so many injuries, and it is too bad that the horse was injured by the falling in roof!

You take care, my friend! Thanks for coming by!

Word has it that the dog used to belong to Dick Cheney. :)

Hey Bob...
Now that wouldn't surprise me a bit! Learning by watching the master, huh?

Maybe he was trained by another government agency...who knows?

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

I like to hunt and think we can never stress gun safety too much; however you don't think the dog was a little miffed at not being able to pick up the decoy's himself, do ya? Cup of tea sounds great, friend; I hate to be picky but you don't have any homemade chocolate cookies around do ya?
thanks

HermitJim said...

Hey Eutychus2...
Better safe than sorry, that's what I say! Doesn't take but just a small lapse of attention to detail to cause a bad accident!

Maybe the dog felt as though the guy was horning in on his job!

I normally keep my secret stash of chocolate chip cookies hidden, but I'll bring 'em out for my friends!

Hey, I appreciate you coming by today!
