You Might Need Some Of These...!

We all know that there will be a rash of headaches after the partying this coming weekend!

I don't know if any of these will help with the "self inflicted" variety or not, but I figured I should put them on here just in case!

I'm thinking that if the headache is really bad enough for you to try some of these cures...maybe you should forget the cure and try a little more of the cause, ya know?

Here are 16 folk remedies for headaches:

1. Put leeches on your forehead.

2. Rub cow dung and molasses on your temples.

3. Tie a buzzard's head around your neck.

4. Use powdered moss as snuff.

5. Have someone else rub your head; the headache will be transferred to that person, but it will be less severe.

6. Have a relative read chapters of the Bible to you.

7. Stand on your head or spin around until you are dizzy.

8. Soak your feet in hot water to draw blood from your head.

9. Run around the house three times.

10. Ask a seventh child to blow in your ear.

11. Put a buckwheat cake on your head.

12. Rub your head with a piece of stone containing iron ore.

13. Wrap damp cloths around your head and burn scented wood.

14. Plait a handful of hair very tightly on top of your head.

15. Lean your head against a tree and have someone else drive a nail into the opposite side of the tree.

16. Tie a leather thong tightly around your head.(If this fails, you may tell your friends, "The thong is over, but the malady lingers on," which will give them headaches.)

I got these remedies from (where else?) the Old Farmer's Almanac! But you already knew that, right?

Heck, just reading these cures might be enough to give you a headache! You try 'em...I'll just watch! OK?

Now, my friends, let's get some fresh coffee and sit in the kitchen for a bit! No aching heads here!

Sheer magic. Nothing I want to try. LOL!

Hey Catman...
I don't really think I want to try them either!

I'd rather just avoid the headache altogether, ya know?

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

Shucks, I don't have to worry none 'cause I'll be in bed asleep by 9 or 10 o'clock. It's just another day/night. 'Sides, there aren't any buzzards 'round here.

You know all the women in our family suffer from migraines, but I don't think I've ever had one bad enough to make me rub cow dung and molasses on my forehead! Just give me a good old aspirin and put me to bed, being very, very quiet while you do so.

Do you have the Old Farmer's for 2011? Almost got you one for Christmas, but figured you were way ahead of me.....

Big hugs -

I just hope the nail they drive through the tree is shorter than the tree is thick, ya know!? Reading these might give one a headache but, on the other hand, it might help to prevent the headache in the first place! I guess my headache will be from keeping twin 3 years old for the biggest part of 3 days and nights in a house the size of a postage stamp! Too much slush and black ice for them to play outside.
Love ya.

Back in my Air Force days we would climb into the cockpit and go on pure oxygen for about five minutes, worked every time.

I am one of the lucky few who vary rarely get head aches. I get a sharp pain in my head every now and then but it only lasts for a second or two. I say some people give me a headache, when what they really do is give me a pain at the other end. . .

Hey China...
Careful in getting those buzzards! They might be all in D.C. right now, ya know!

I appreciate you coming by today!

Hey Momlady...
Sounds a lot like where I'll be at that time! I think it's the safest place, don't you?

One thing about it...we are the least likely to get a self inflicted headache!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Sis...
I read the Almanac completely on-line now days, and don't have a hard copy!

In fact, I get an update from them every couple of weeks as an email!

Glad I missed out on the migraines! One of those things I can do without!

Thanks for taking the time to visit this morning!

Hey Sis...
I can see where keeping the two young ones would get wild and wooley after a couple of days!

Part of the fun of being a granny, I guess!

Take care, and thanks for coming over this morning!

Hey Ben...
I think the worse part about him getting all those leeches on himself...was having to go back into the water again!

I know they used to use leeches in the barber shops to let blood in the older days, but I could do without them I think!

I appreciate the visit, buddy!

Hey Bob...
I have heard that the oxygen was a good cure for headaches! Not a common thing around my house, I'm afraid!

Probably best if I just avoid ther headaches all together!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

Hey Dizzy...
I very seldom get a headache myself...although I did used to inflict a lot in the form of hang-overs!

Amazing how much better I felt when I stopped doing that!

I certainly know what you mean about the folks causing a pain in the backside! Haqd that happen a few times!

You have a good one and thanks for coming by today!

My two favourite hangover remedies:

1. Don't drink.

- or -

2. Before retiring, drink a litre of water. With it chew two to four tums, take a multi-vitamin, and take two aspirin.

I've never had a hangover - swore that if I ever did, I'd never touch another drop. Although, come to think of it...as I'm not much of a drinker, I guess it's a moot point, eh?

Some of those remedies truly DO look worse than the malady, Mister Hermit, sir - I think I'll stick to drinking plain old water.

Shade and Sweetwater,
K

Hey K...
You probably have the right idea! Water has never been the cause of a hangover, as far as I know!

Certainly a lot cheaper as well!

You take care of that sprout and drink lots of water, my friend! Best way to go, I think!

Thanks for coming by today!

Well I've never had a migraine bad enough to try most of those - I'd soak my feet but that's about it, though it might be fun to watch someone else.

I just go stand outside in the cold for a little while. Then my feet are so cold I forget about my headache. Frankly, it's more desirable than some of your cures here! So, I'll stand with you and just watch others checking out these cures.

HermitJim said...

Hey Stephanie...
It would have to be a pretty bad headache, that's for sure!

Thanks, girl, for coming by today!

Hey Dafthermit...
Does us good to be reminded from time to time about why we gave it up, doesn't it!

I'm really glad you could come by today!

Hey Marjie...
I think the cold feet thing is a good cure! Would certainly work for me!

Come to think of it, I don't even want to try that one either! I hate cold feet!

Thanks for coming by today!
