Mom Is Home...!

Yesterday about 3:00 P.M. I got a call from Mom at the hospital, saying she was being released!

I had just been there in the morning and at that time, she didn't know when she would be released! She was feeling fine and getting around on her own pretty good! The problem was that for the last two days, her white count had been climbing and no one knew why!

A blood specialist had been called in to check things out, and when she came back with the test results...she said that the white count was going up because of the steroids the doctors had put Mom on to help fight her illness.

So now she's home. She's happy, her cat's happy, I'm happy...the main thing is that she is feeling OK, just tired!

One week yesterday, she went in the hospital. A week in the hospital, away from home, is enough to make anyone tired!

Her thanks (and mine) go out to everyone that sent prayers and good thoughts her way! I know in my heart that it made a BIG difference in her getting better so quickly! At Mom's age, any illness like pneumonia can be very, very serious! Mom knows that and I know that! We accept it as part of the life cycle, so we do what we can to make the best of things while we can!

Folks, we all need to learn to live each and every day just like it was the last one we had left to be with our loved ones! You know why? Because someday, maybe someday soon...it WILL be!

Peace and love from the Hermit, my friends! Coffee's on me!

Glad to hear your Mom has been sprung from hospital - those hours waiting to be released sure do feel long. I hope she recovers quickly - have a great weekend.

Good Morning My Friend,
I am so happy to hear your mom is home and feeling well. And I am happy for you too. It will be easier to keep your eye on her closer to you. Amy must be so thrilled to have her momma back too.
I will continue to keep her in thoughts.
Hugs to you both

I am thankful Mom is better. She had nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about you. I thank you, too. I know (or do I??) how much stress this put on you.
Love you very much...now try to get some well deserved rest!!

So glad that your Mom is back home where she belongs. I know it was also hard on you (and her cat) when she was in there for a week. BTW, you gave great advice, we should all take heed.

Thanks for the good update, now that she is home, you can sort of relax and attempt to get back to normal.

BTW, does she have one of those push for help buttons with her ?

Glad to hear she's home and survived a stay in the hospital. Personally, I think hospitals and doctors are more dangerous than anything on the planet.

I pray she continues on the road to recovery.

Jim, do not relax totally just yet. When my Mom came home from the hospital, she was raring to get back to doing all her normal things, however she was so weak that a kitten could have whupped her. You gotta keep a close eye on her for a week or two and don't let her over do. If she is like my Mom she will get upset that you are sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong, but it will still be a while until she is back up to normal speed.

Hey China...
I appreciate it a lot, buddy! And you're right...it is a relief!

Thanks for the visit!

Hey Anon 5:18...
Actually, this time the release went pretty fast, as the hospital really needed the room!

So many sick folks here in Houston right now!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey JoJo...
Yep, Amy is totally pleased with the world now that her sleeping partner is back home!

You always know when a cat is happy, when they totally ignore you! Sign of comfort, I guess!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!

Hey Phelan...
Thanks, girl! I'm plenty glad as well!

I sure appreciate you coming by today!

Hey Sis...
I think maybe we can be thankful they are treating some of the other issues she was having!

Time will tell, but I think all will be fine for a while now!

Thanks, Sis...for coming by today!

Hey Dizzy...
Sure makes a difference when we can have her home. Makes it a lot easier to take care of her!

Many thanks for your good wishes, buddy!

Hey Ben...
I checked in to getting one of those life alert things, but they are kind of pricey!

What I did instead was go down and buy a wireless door bell unit. I put the doorbell part in my house, gave Mom the push button, and so far it works just fine when she needs to call me!

Even made a small pouch that she can wear around her neck when sitting in the living room or while moving around! That way she can always have it close!

Lots of peace of mind for $18 bucks!

Thanks, my friend, for coming by today!

Hey Catman...
I have to admit that this last stay sort of changed my opinion of most hospitals.

Foe the most part, they were very organized, considering the number of folks they had to treat and care for!

Not as good as the VA, but still pretty good!

I appreciate you coming by today, buddy!

Hey Bob...
I started not ong after she was settled into the hospital...telling her that she would have to be sure not to try and do too much too soon!

Nearly every day we talked about it, so I think she knows that she needs to be a little slower to rush into things, like it or not!

But, like you said, at that age they want to do things their way! Just have to work around that!

Thanks so much for coming by today, my friend!

I´m so glad that it just was the steroids that made the high level!

It´s strange really, but one doesn´t do anything while being at hospital, still one is really exhausted when coming home again :-) :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

It's good to hear you mom is back home. That doorbell is one clever idea! We may have to use it for calling out to the shop from the house. With this cold weather dh has it closed up pretty tight & with a radio...this would make it easier to call him in for supper.

Hey Christer...
I may be wrong, but I think that so much of the being tired is caused by stress!

We all know from the different studies that have been done just how much stress affects our health!

Even the doctor said to Mom that stress could cause the tremor in her hands to get worse. I myself have been so angry that I have started to shake!

All negative emotions can have a non healthy effect on us.

Hey, thanks for coming by today, my friend!

Hey Stephanie...
The nice thing about the wirel4ess doorbells is that they are operated by batteries, so you don't have to worry if the power goes off!

They have a pretty good range as well!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Awww, Jim, great news to hear your mom is home, have had my candle burning for her so I will put it out now until someone needs it again.
You made my weekend with this post! I had pneumonia in Feb.2006 and was in hospital for 9 days, my intestines twisted and they tubed me to release the pressure, didn't know if they would have to do surgery, but it finally went back to normal.
Worst thing was I had NO SYMPTOMS, I got violently ill out of the blue and very weak and called 911, little did I think I would be away from home and my pets for almost a week and a half.

Good news. Please give your Mum a big hug from me. She was so welcoming to me, when I was there. I hope her recovery continues well.
