Hard Times Ahead...!

As if the cold, snow, and ice wasn't enough...looks like the price of most of our basic food items is getting ready to sky-rocket again!

According to all the articles I've been reading lately, by the summer we are going to be taking a beating in the grocery store. Either that, or we'll be eating off our Preps in a big way!

Shaping up to be the year where lots more folks better be putting in a garden, or expanding the one they have! See what you think!

Higher food prices ahead after corn reserves sink

I think that most of us have started seeing food prices going up in our local stores...and then to find out that coffee prices are starting to climb another 10% very soon really hits me where I live! For those that are interested, that's three times in the last year for coffee increases!

An era of cheap food may be drawing to a close

It's not only corn, but all grain crops and seed-oil crops that are going to be scarce! Looks like I'm going to have to double up on my coffee and nearly everything else I like! I can't take too many more 17% or 18% increases during the next year without coming up with some way to bring a little extra money in!

Maybe I'll have to cut back on eating for a while, ya think?

Let's get some fresh coffee, my friends, before they price it completely out of my reach!

I'm not a fan of coffee, but Fel is. If she doesn't get her joe in the morning, it is hell around here.

Keeping that in mind, I make her buy an extra can of coffee every time we have a chance.

I don't want to deal with the fallout if she runs out of coffee.

Hey Catman...
Sounds like a very good plan to me! I can pretty well imagine what she is like, 'cause I'm pretty cranky myself until I get my first cup!

I'd certainly be for keeping her supply full, if I were you!

Thanks, buddy, for coming by today!

At the grocery
Oatmeal 42 oz $2.49= 95 cents lb
At the feed store
cleaned oats 50 lb $9.95= 20 cents lb
The horses eat oats.
Why can't we?

Good Morning My Special One,
Yes coffee is getting so expensive I won't be buying my special beans much anymore and hoarding them to boot. I try to watch for the best prices but they are all going sky high.
Pipes are not fixed and now I don't have any water at all. pipes are completely rotted. A plumber of sorts is coming tomorrow and in the mean time my grandson is digging slowly through the rock. Gotta love that kid. Knee surgery on the 24th. Life is good Right!

I like good strong Columbian coffee and the little bag of the ground stuff that I get at Wallmat figures out to be almost $14.00 per pound. I now only use it for traeats and drink regular coffee instead of (which is also getting costly). I have a grinder for beans but that isn't any cheaper, but beans will keep longer.

And to think that it took me years to learn to like coffee! Now I am a true addict. I bought a new coffee pot last Monday and paid about $16.00 for it...when I went to Target for coffee ( and other things )coffee was $8.?? for a 42.5 oz. container. It is almost "I have a pot but nothing to pit (oops) in it" deal.
Love ya.

2 acres and plenty of cheap well water. Looks like time to hook up the plow and get busy, now if I can just find someone to pull it.

Hey Vlad...
Makes perfect sense to me, trying the oats for human consumption! I've used deer corn for making moonshine and it works just fine!

Lots of folks are buying wheat berries from the feed store, so why not oats indeed!

Thanks for the idea and for the visit!

Hey JoJo...
I do hope you get the pipes fixed before long! I know what a bother that can be, doing without water!

Glad to know that the knee will be getting fixed on the 24th, but was wondering if you have someone to come stay with you during your recovery time. It would be handy to have someone there to do a little bit of the fetch and carry for you!

I'd come see you and help, but it's just a little too far away! I'll be thinking of you, though!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!

Hey Dizzy...
I was lucky and found a cheaper coffee at Kroger and Food Town that isn't too bad! That's what I use most of the time!

I don't have to think too hard on whether to choose between $2.00 a can, and $4.00 a can! Even I can figure that one out!

I haven't checked, but I'll bet the cost of a bottle of whiskey has really gone up!

I appreciate you coming by today, buddy!

Hey Sis...
Getting harder and harder to have something to put in the pot ( coffee and cooking pot), but I guess we'll manage somehow!

Crazy world out there and getting worse all the time!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Bob...
I guess that asking Mom to pull it would be out of the question, huh?

That's when having a small tractor would come in handy...or maybe an ATV!

All of us are going to have to do something soon!

Thanks for coming by today, my friend!

Thanks for the links--I linked to this post over at Idaho Preppers. Valuable information that I hope people are paying attention to. One thing I wonder about is if we need it for reserves, why are we selling, selling, selling it? Thanks again for the info!

Hey Marie...
I couldn't begin to tell you why we are continually selling all our surplus food! It should be staying here at home where it's needed, in my opinion!

Of course, the PTB have shown time and time again that the welfare of the folks at home doesn't concern them much!

I am tired of trying to second guess what goes on in the minds of politicians anymore!

Hey, thanks for coming by today!

We're down to two cans of coffee in the pantry. Makes me super nervous. Sweetie keeps saying we'll buy it when it goes on sale again. Problem is, the "sale" price is much higher than what we paid even three months ago.
I'm watering down juices to stretch them further. I try to make the coffee a bit weaker but Sweetie complains. Told him either we'll have to stock up big time NOW or pay more later and water it down even more.

Hey Treesong...
I hear ya about getting nervous when down to just a couple of cans. You can bet that the prices are not going anywhere but up!

With the cost of wheat increasing, flour and bread prices will be headed the same way!

All us poor folks can't catch a break, so it's a good thing most of us are in the habit of putting some extras in the pantry!

You take care and thanks for coming by today!
