Back To The Airport...!

Well, after a nice visit to North Carolina to visit with my sister Mom is coming back home Saturday.

Of course, that means another trip across town to the big airport to pick her up. I don't mind, though.

Mom has been ready to come home for several days now and tells me this will probably be her last extended trip. She likes being at home and around her friends, some of them having serious health issues.

I know it is hard to be away from friends when at anytime the dreaded call may come that they have passed on. Still, it's always nice to get away for a bit.

Mom's cat, Amy, will sure be glad to have her back home. I've been going over to Mom's and keeping the cat company off and on during the day, but it isn't the same as having her human at home to sleep with! In fact, Amy has decided to sleep over at my house tonight! Tired of being alone in the house, I guess. I normally turn on the television for her during the early evening to give her the feeling someone is there, but she caught on to the fact that it was only noise, so now she doesn't fall for that!

Anyway, Mom will be back just in time to help me plan what to serve up for Thanksgiving. Probably won't be many here which will disappoint Mom, but that's the way it's been the past few years. Family get togethers are becoming a thing of the past, it seems!

However, that's a dead horse and I'm not going to beat it very much this year! At least, I am gonna try and hold my tongue mostly! Notice I said mostly!

I'm leaving the coffee pot set up for ya, so just help yourself...OK?

I think you're right about Thanksgiving get togethers. Folks are forgetting all about thankfulness and the fact that family is one of the things we should be thankful for. Our families are gone all too soon.

I find it strange that 2 or 3 decades after everyone started moving away from their family homestead we are now lamenting the loss of family get togethers. Perhaps because my grandmother died during that timeframe I noticed immediately that my family began fragmenting. To me, it is not just the lack of family get togethers, it is the total loss of community. I'm at the point where I don't feel that family actually means the same thing that it used to. People sending gift cards to each other for Christmas because they no longer have any idea what the others need or would like to have? No ability to cook for a sick relative? No means to babysit for someone when a busy season of work arrives? No children to help out during the busy season of work? I'm generally a positive guy, but when people talk to me about family in America I have a hard time accepting that they're being realistic about our situation as things have changed so much in the past few decades that the word no longer means the same thing it originally did.

Anyhow, it's nice you took care of your mom's cat. I hope she has a safe flight.

Glad you Mom is coming home. Be carefull in the Friday traffic. I hope your trip to the airport does not coincide with rush hour.

Be careful going to the airport. Hope your mom enjoyed meeting the latest great-grandchild. I understand your sis is coming for Thanksgiving. Enjoy.

Hope your mom had a great trip.

It's going to be a smaller Thanksgiving here as well. Husband's side of the family has fallen apart (long story I rather not prod-cast) and with my Father and my grandmother now passed, it will just be the 5 of us.

Its nice that your mom got to go even if she feels its her last long trip. Home is where their heart is no matter who they visit and I am sure she loves dearly its still not her home. But I bet she had a great time.
My family is split in half also so I just do what ever with one half and see the other on a fly. I gave up this year totaly on trying to fix the problem since it only seems to have gotten much worse while I was gone. Someday they will regret there stupity just hope it won't be to late for them.

Wish I could edit comments sometimes. That should say broadcast not prod-cast. I have had enough coffee to comment now.

Well I guess I am one of the lucky ones when it comes to family get togethers on Thanksgiving. We all get together at my Uncles, almost fourty of us last Thanksgiving. Usually come home knowing a lot more gossip about everyone than I ever wanted to. Eat until can't move, then wait a couple hours and do it again with desert.

Hey Gorges...
Family seems to get older and more separated each and every year.

The holidays are losing more and more meaning all the time. Sad!

You have a great day and thanks for coming over this morning!

Hey Phreaknik...
The loss of family unity is one of the saddest things to have to witness or to be a part of, in my opinion!

I don't think I really appreciated how important my family is to me until I started getting older!

I guess it's true that we don't know what we have 'till it's gone!

Thanks for the visit today!

Hey DD...
At least I'll be making the trip on Saturday and not a workday!

Somehow, I think her cat knows that Mom is coming home!

I appreciate the good wishes, buddy, and the visit!

Hey Momlady...
I think she probably really enjoyed seeing the new great grand baby!

I'm glad she had a chance to meet the sprout and visit with the extended family!

You have a great day, my friend, and thanks for coming by today!

Hey Phelan...
The core family is the one that matters the most!

I can't help but feel that this may be the last season all of us will have the chance to be together, for whatever reason!

I do hope that you and the family have a great day together and I know the day will be a blessing for all of you!

Thanks for the visit this morning, my friend!

Hey JoJo...
All we can do is to make things as pleasant as we can for those that gather together!

After all, it's really for Mom...I think!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming by today!

Hey Bob...
That sounds a lot like the way it used to be at our family gatherings, and still is in some part!

Sometimes makes me wonder just where I put all the food!

All I can say, it's a good thing I like leftovers!

You have a good day and thanks for dropping in today!

It won't be long until you are spending Thanksgiving on the road, hunting the leftovers down!

You have a good day, buddy! Thanks for coming by!

We still have huge family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we mostly, all live here. And won't even mention the huge amount of food. Everybody pitches in, takes it. Niece has a bakery,,,lololol. Plenty of sweet things. But,, i won't go away for extended trips any more either, rather just be home.

Hey Trouble...
Nice that everyone lives close enough to get together with no problems!

Having a niece with a bakery could certainly come in handy! I would gain more weight than normal, I'm afraid!

I do like me some good pie and cake!

Thanks for coming over today!

Happy trails to the airport and back. I count my blessings that my kids still make the effort for all of us to get together. If only my dad and my wife's folks weren't scattered to the 4 corners of the earth. Oh well, I'm thankful for those who do show up.
