Shaking Things Up In Texas...!

Just how mad at us is Mother Nature?

I'm struck by the fact that if these tremors had been very much bigger, there could have been some serious consequences. This kinda makes you wonder if this might have been just a warning or maybe a wake up call!

I don't know what you think, but I'll bet that this certainly got the attention of folks in Cleburne!

This story is from the Houston Chronicle and I thought it was pretty interesting!

CLEBURNE, Texas — Another small earthquake — the seventh in about a month — has been reported in the North Texas town of Cleburne.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 2.0-magnitude quake there Friday morning.

Before early June, an earthquake had never hit the town of 22,000 people about 50 miles southwest of Dallas. That's left some city officials and residents to wonder whether natural gas drilling in the area could be contributing to the tremors.

Two weeks ago, seismographs were placed in the city for about six months, after which researchers will report on the seismic activity to city officials.

So far, the strongest quake in the area has had a magnitude of 2.8.

No damage or injuries have been reported from any of the tremors.

Something tells me I don't want to be around when anything that big (or small) hits in Houston! There might not be any visible damage in the town, but I can tell you for sure that in my case, a change of undergarments would definitely be in order!

Now let's get some fresh coffee this morning...maybe it will help to get us moving ! (pun intended!)

I was in Anchorage in 64 when the quake, and would rather not do that again.

Never been in one.....Never want to.

Time to get out of Dodge?

I prefer to drink my coffee with a steady hand. Pass the pot

Thanks for the visit today, Vlad...

Hey Tony...
Something like this in Texas is reason enough to start thinking about all the reasons to continue to get ready. It would getmy attention for sure!

Thanks for coming by, my friend!

I experienced a 4.5 in WA in 1999. It felt like the earth tuned into waves under my feet.
That is the only time I was so scared I had to sit down before I fell down. I'd never felt my knees turn to jello like that before or since.
Hope I never experience anything stronger.
BTW, a car is the safest and most comfy place to be in a quake, as long as it is away from structures and tall trees.

Good morning Uncle Hermit,

Now myself, being a Native Californian. I am used to earthquakes. I pretty much don't even feel them if they aren't over a 5 on the Richter scale. They are felt more frequently in the Santa Clara Valley(Silicon Valley) where I grew up,because it sits between 2 fault lines. Now that I live in the San Joaquin Valley they aren't as common, but can happen. I've been here 5 years and have yet to feel one.

The rolling quakes are easier to deal with than the ones that have a jarring feeling either way though both will still scare a person. Sometimes you can actually hear them before you get the rocking/jarring sensation, but not always.

I guess for somebody that has never experienced one though it would be pretty scary. I have never been in a tornado or a hurricane and am terrified to ever experience one of those. I figure I have a better chance of surviving in an earthquake. But that could just be the Californian in me because I'm used to the quakes.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

I'll join you for a cup of coffee and I'll bring along some banana muffins.

Hugs~Felinae~

I don´t know how many believers you have amongst your readers here Jim, but even if you aren´t you should go to Matt.24 in the New Testament and read about the signs of the times there.Take it as you wish, but it could be an eye opener for many!

Hey Maitreya...
Good to see you again! Thanks for the heads up about the car thing!

I don't think I ever want to experience an earthquake, as nature on a rampage is one of the only things I fear!

I sure am glad to see you drop by again, my friend!

Hey Felinae...
Tell you what! I'll do the hurricanes for you, and you do the earthquakes for me, OK?

I guess it's all in what you are around growing up.

Thanks for the bananna muffins and for the visit this morning!

Hey Mattias...
A little reading of the good book can't hurt anyone and is certainly a good way to pass the time during scary weather.

You're right about Matthew 24 being an eye opener for sure!

Thanks for the visit, my friend!

Good afternoon, Mister Hermit, sir.

Some years back, in Georgia, we had a little quake shake the house in the wee hours - just enough to wake us up and wonder if we'd really felt it. The cats kept looking around as if to say "What the Hell was that???" Next day, it was on the news, a quake centered in...Missouri, I think...had been felt all the way out where we lived.

Nature shivers as we walk about on her skin, like a horse with flies, and on occasion we will be knocked down...but its only fair, since we irritate her so...

Shade and Sweetwater,
K

Hey Ken...
One felt there would certainly get your attention, wouldn't it?

Sometimes I think we forget just where we are and what underneath us.

Thanks, buddy, for stopping by!

Hey K...
I can picture the look on the kitties faces after the fact! Makes me smile when I imagine how my roomies might act...

I think that once in a while Ma Nature just spanks us a bit to remind us who's in charge!

I appreciate you taking the time to drop by today!
