Let's Talk Spiders...!

Not just any spider, but one that is really unique, to say the least!

Now you know that here at the Hermit's, we pride ourselves on finding the unusual! Today's topic certainly fills that bill!

I've seen some really ugly critters in my life, but this guy looks to me like he was hit multiple times with the preverbial "ugly stick", ya know?

Bird dung crab spider

This spider has one of the most effective camouflages of all animals; its body is covered on blobs and warts that give it the appearance of a fresh piece of bird excrement; it often produces a small thread of white silk and sits on it so that it looks like the white stains caused by bird droppings falling onto leaves. And as if this was not amazing enough, it also smells like poop. This camouflage has a double function; it makes the spider a rather unappetizing prey for most animals (especially birds themselves), and it serves as a lure for the small, excrement-loving insects which are the spider’s favorite prey. These spiders are found in Asia, from Indonesia to Japan.

I told ya this thing was ugly! Believe me, I know ugly! Remember, I've been married more than once...and this fellow would have fit in at some of the family reunions I attended during those times!

I think we'll have our coffee out on the patio this morning. It's nice and cool out and that Autumn smell is actually in the air!

Not just the look, but smell to go along with it -the full ugly package.

That is one ugly critter - I'm glad we don't have them in the U.S.!
Kinda warm here this morning at 55.
The leaves have turned and some trees are bare already, but it still no scent of autumn in the air. How about I bring some glazed donuts for all?

Did someone twist your arm into your marriages, Hermit? Did these wives ditch you or you them? A Big Question. One must know all the facts before making judgments. The spider was created just as meant to be. We all have our faults and our virtues. Ugly is as ugly does. Our Creator made NO mistakes -remember?

Wow, Bubba -
Anon really wants to hit hard this am, huh? I knew your wives, and although our family tree has some knots on it, your wives had to be some of the branches the orginal ugly sticks were made from. Not all, of course. Anyway, this spider just shows me that God has a sense of humor, and may He bless us all! Pray for our country...

Big hugs -

Man oh man, that is very 'unfortunate looking' alright. Now how does Darwin explain THIS one? Evolution - I just don't see it.

I'm with Phyllis; glad they aren't here in the US! walking into an orb spider web is bad enough!
I agree with Baby Sis too; I think God does have a sense of humor and looks like some people would do well to get one also. ha!

That is one ugly spider. However, if being ugly gets the food then I say - more power to ya'! God must have a sense of humor to create that guy. Fall is in the air here in S.E. WI this morning. Have a great day.

Yep he is ugly all right. looks like a cross between and ugly spider and an ugly crab. I such an imagination.
I wonder if anon is related to one of your exs.

Fall is here too and it is so beautiful. I have never seen it like this before.
Nice hot refill Please. It's cold

Hey Sixbears...
Mother Nature sure seems to have covered all the bases on this one!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Phyllis...
Donuts are always accepted here!

I'm with you in thinking that we don't need these guys here in the states!

Thanks so much for coming by today!

Hey Anon 6:56...
I'm sorry that you didn't see the humor in my statements, because that's what I was trying to convey!

To answer your question, my arm was never twisted to marry anyone. They were very pretty ladies, at least on the outside. But until you have lived with someone for a while, you don't know them on the inside!

It's never a good thing to judge someone, but like you said...ugly is as ugly does! I don't feel that going into all the circumstances is necessary, but I will say this; only once did I pack my things and leave! Get the picture?

Oh, and just so you'll know...I never hit any of them.

Thanks for coming over today!

Hey Sis...
Guess I have the ability to offend folks, even when I don't try to.

Oh well, can't win them all!

Thanks for dropping by today, Sis!

Hey Anon 7:13...
That's a very good way to explain it! "Unfortunate looking" certainly fits the bill!

However, it does seem to work for the spider! That's the important thing! Whatever works!

Thanks for coming by today!

Hey Anne...
God does have a way of helping his critters survive in some strange ways! No doubt He has a great sense of humor about some things!

Ya know, if we can't smile at ourselves from time to time then getting along in this old world can be way too hard!

Thanks, my friend, for coming over today!

Hey Linda...
Seems like getting the food is not a problem for this creative guy! Guess it's a case of doing what's necessary!

I figured it would be cold up there by now. We're actually having a taste of Fall! Pretty nice!

Thanks for dropping by today!

Hey JoJo...
He is different, that's for sure! In this case being different is a good thing!

Thanks, sweetie, for coming over this morning!

Agreed that is one scary creature. I wonder how big it is and think it would be perfect in a horror movie, although I don't care for horror movies. Yikes! May I have an a bit of bicarb soda alongside that coffee. I feel sort of nauseaus viewing this "BUG" and smelling its body odor!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They must mate at night or with their eyes closed or both!!

HermitJim said...

Hey Sissy...
Thank goodness this guy isn't very big. I'd still hate to run across him in person!!

One bicarb coming up, with the coffee!

Many thanks for coming by today!

Hey Dizzy...
I'm thinking you are right about the mating!

Still, they must have it all figured out as there are still a bunch of them around!

Funny how things work out, isn't it?

Thanks, buddy, for dropping by today!

I'm not sure I would call it ugly, interesting I think is better. But I guess it looks worse in the real and with that smell I guess it is rather safe from being eaten.

Have a great day!
Christer.

Hey Christer...
Interesting is a good description, I guess

Hopefully I never have to see one for real! Pictures are enough!

Thanks, my friend, for coming over today!

Oh, I just thought of something. I bet it gets followed by dung Beatles.

Hey HJ, you surely had a lot of controversy going with this post and not all about the spider. Guess some folks just focused on certain parts of your comments. Everyone has an opinion that's for sure and we could all use more humor.
