What The Heck Happened...?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain... let's take a look at New Orleans ... It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D) is presently asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number... what does it mean?

A. Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.

B. Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D. C ...HELLO! Are all your calculators broken??

Wow, Jim! Makes me feel almost as old as Jesus.

Those are some sad statistics. It is definitely time for our government to be governed.

It really is amazing how many times our dollar gets taxed. No wonder it's nearly worthless.

Thanks for this post, you find the best stuff.

Yeah. Too much like work. Coffee sounds good to me.

Hey Jim? I think in one of my videos (micronuts.com then click on movies by js) I said something like this:

The largest number of slaves on this planet is in this century, not in the 1800s, 1700s, or during the time of Egypt... but now.

And the slaves of old were fed, given shelter... were taken care of. Today's slave is a slave to the money system, to the boss, to 9 to 5 or worse. And today's slaves have to take care of THEIR OWN HOUSING and FOOD! It's far worse than it ever was before. Why don't people open up their eyes and see that? Hmmmm?

So your post about those taxes? Right on.

Thanks Jim.

Jim,

You are spot on about the problem with our taxes.

To JS:

I have to disagree about the slaves of today:

At least we can get out of slavery with a well planned out wealth building path. American slaves of the past had to run away in order to be free.

Today's slaves can frown at their bosses and make decisions to make a change in their lives. Slaves of the past were killed for having an opinion or showing intellect.

True, Slaves of the past were fed and sheltered, but with the quality of their lives, where they were not even considered human, the little bit of food and the shack they lived in was not worth it (not to mention the beatings and the rapes).

I, for one, am grateful for those who came before me and died so that I can truly know what the difference of being a "slave" today is in comparision to being a slave of the past where your body was not your own, your children were not your own, and you didn't have a chance in hell at a better life.

I know that I have a choice to work for someone else or do whatever it takes to get me where I want to be in life. I am not squandering my chance.

My two cents for today, hope everyone has a good one...

Hey Sheila...thanks for stopping by and sharing your comment with us.
We are indeed fortunate to be living in a time where we have some choices left to us. As one who is not content to live on a fixed income alone, I am always on the lookout for additional ways to make a little extra.
That was my original reason behind starting a blog...now I just do it because I'm addicted to it!

Thanks again for coming by!
